TFP Bureau, Raipur, July 26, 2025: In a significant crackdown on corruption in the healthcare supply sector, the Chhattisgarh State GST Department has uncovered a major tax evasion case involving Raigarh-based medical supplier M/s Shyam Surgical. The action comes as part of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption and efforts to ensure transparency in public procurement.
The investigation revealed that the firm supplied medical equipment worth ₹48 crore to government hospitals in Chhattisgarh and neighbouring states like Jharkhand and Odisha over the last 4 to 5 years. However, the actual purchase value of these goods was just around ₹10 crore. Officials found that the supplier inflated prices by up to 400–500 percent to generate huge profits.
To conceal the inflated earnings and evade taxes, the supplier reportedly operated three shell firms – Rahul Enterprises, Narayani Healthcare, and P.R. Enterprises – registered in the names of family members. These entities were used to fabricate purchase records and simulate legitimate transactions, leading to GST evasion of approximately ₹1 crore.
The raid and investigation were carried out following instructions from Finance Minister O.P. Choudhary, who had earlier directed officials to keep a close watch on procurement-related irregularities. The GST Department’s action forms part of a broader campaign initiated by CM Sai to root out corruption in sectors critical to public welfare, particularly healthcare.
Commenting on the development, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said, “Corruption in essential services like healthcare is not just a financial crime but a betrayal of public trust. We are committed to ensuring complete transparency and accountability.”
The state government has warned all contractors and suppliers that any attempt to exploit the system for unjust profit will attract the strictest penalties. The administration is expected to initiate further legal proceedings against the entities involved.
This enforcement action underscores the Sai government’s unwavering resolve to maintain a clean and transparent administration, where public interest remains the highest priority.
