NHM Employees End Strike in Chhattisgarh, CM Hails Move as Step Towards Stronger Health Services

TFP Bureau, Raipur, September 19, 2025: Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai has welcomed the decision of National Health Mission (NHM) employees in Chhattisgarh to call off their strike, describing it as a responsible and commendable step taken in the larger interest of the state. The strike, which was based on a ten-point charter of demands, had impacted health services across several districts.

The Chief Minister said the state government regards every employee as part of its extended family and has consistently been sensitive to their legitimate concerns. Stressing that public health remains the government’s top priority, he noted that concrete steps have always been taken to ensure that citizens receive reliable and accessible medical facilities. Sai added that the employees’ decision to return to work would not only help in restoring normal health services but also strengthen the state’s ongoing efforts to improve medical care for all sections of society.

The NHM employees had raised ten demands, out of which four have already been accepted by the state government. For three others, a special committee has been set up to study and provide recommendations. The remaining demands—relating to merger, creation of a public health cadre, and reservation—fall under the jurisdiction of the Government of India, and decisions are awaited on those issues.

Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal also expressed gratitude to the NHM employees, acknowledging their decision to end the strike following the Chief Minister’s initiative. He said that employees form the backbone of the state’s health services and by resuming their duties, they have demonstrated their commitment to the welfare of the people.

With health services set to return to normal, the government expressed confidence that joint efforts by employees and the administration will drive Chhattisgarh toward a healthier and brighter future. The move has been widely seen as a significant relief for citizens, particularly in rural areas, where NHM staff play a crucial role in delivering essential healthcare.
