TFP Bureau, Raipur, November 6,2025: In a major administrative shake-up, the Chhattisgarh government on Wednesday removed Inspector General (IG) Ratanlal Dangi from the post of Director of the Police Academy, Chandkhuri, following serious allegations of sexual harassment made by a yoga instructor who is the wife of a serving Sub-Inspector. The government has appointed 2004-batch IPS officer Ajay Kumar Yadav as the new in-charge Director of the academy.
The action comes just 24 hours after the state concluded its grand “Silver Jubilee” celebrations marking 25 years of Chhattisgarh’s foundation, an event that saw the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the inaugural day and Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan at the closing ceremony.
According to the order issued by Home Department Secretary Himshikhar Gupta, the complainant submitted a written application at the Police Headquarters (PHQ) alleging repeated sexual harassment, mental pressure, and misconduct by IG Dangi during her professional association with the academy. The complaint triggered an internal review, and the matter was placed before senior officials for immediate examination.
Sources in the Home Department confirmed that a preliminary inquiry was completed within 14 days of the complaint being filed. The report recommended the removal of IG Dangi from his position to ensure transparency, fairness, and neutrality in the ongoing investigation. Officials emphasized that the inquiry will continue and strict departmental action may follow if the charges are substantiated.
While the complainant has alleged that the senior officer misused his authority, IG Dangi has denied the accusations and claimed that he was being blackmailed. He reportedly informed top police officials earlier regarding what he described as an extortion attempt. However, the Home Department took the decision after independently reviewing the allegations, supporting evidence, and the preliminary findings.
With his removal, the state government has handed over additional charge of the Police Academy to IPS Ajay Kumar Yadav, who is presently posted in the Raipur range. Yadav is known for his administrative experience and policing acumen, and his appointment is being viewed as an attempt to restore discipline and stability within the training institution.
Senior officials have described the government’s step as a clear signal of its zero-tolerance policy toward misconduct, especially in cases involving women’s safety, workplace harassment, and integrity within the police force. The transfer order also states that a more detailed investigation will now move forward under close supervision.
The incident has triggered significant discussion in administrative and police circles, given the seniority of the officer involved and the sensitivity of the complaint. More details are expected to emerge as the inquiry progresses.
Authorities have urged the public and media to avoid speculation until the final report is submitted, though the matter continues to draw widespread attention across the state. See the order here 👇
