TFP Bureau, Korba, December 09, 2025: A worker sustained injuries in an accident at Bharat Aluminium Company Limited’s (BALCO) Green Anode Plant on Monday evening, once again drawing attention to safety standards and past incidents at one of Chhattisgarh’s largest industrial units. The injured worker has been admitted to a hospital for treatment.
According to initial reports, the Green Anode Plant—constructed under BALCO’s ongoing expansion project—was undergoing testing when flames suddenly erupted from one of the units. Workers in the vicinity noticed the fire and immediately alerted plant officials, while colleagues rushed the injured worker to safety.
The cause of the fire is yet to be officially confirmed, but the incident has revived concerns surrounding BALCO’s recent track record of industrial mishaps. In the past few years, the company has faced multiple allegations of inadequate safety measures, with several accidents reported during maintenance and operational activities. Environmental groups and local residents have also repeatedly flagged issues of air and dust pollution emanating from the plant premises, calling for stricter monitoring and improved compliance with environmental norms.
Monday’s accident has prompted fresh demands from workers’ unions for a thorough inquiry into safety protocols at the newly constructed facility. They argue that expansion-related projects should not compromise worker welfare or environmental safeguards.
Local administration officials are expected to inspect the site, and BALCO management is likely to issue a detailed statement after a preliminary assessment. Meanwhile, the incident has once again underscored the need for robust industrial safety practices in Korba, a district long affected by recurring industrial accidents and pollution concerns.
