- AI-driven Vidya Samiksha Kendra recognised by IIT Bhilai Innovation and Technology Foundation as a scalable national model for data-led, transparent and citizen-centric education administration
TFP Bureau, Raipur, January 18, 2026: Chhattisgarh has emerged as a frontrunner in digital governance of education, earning national recognition for its innovative and technology-driven administrative framework. The Vidya Samiksha Kendra (VSK), established by the state government, has been identified by the IIT Bhilai Innovation and Technology Foundation (IBITF) as a leading national model of excellence in education governance, driven by artificial intelligence, data analytics and real-time monitoring.
According to IBITF, the Vidya Samiksha Kendra represents a transformative shift in the way large-scale public education systems are managed, monitored and evaluated. Implemented by the School Education Department under the Department of Good Governance and Convergence, Government of Chhattisgarh, VSK has been acknowledged as a scalable public innovation that strengthens transparency, accountability and outcome-based governance.
Chhattisgarh manages one of the largest government school networks in the country, with over 48,500 schools, catering to more than 39 lakh students and supported by nearly 1.8 lakh teachers and non-teaching staff. Managing such a vast system earlier posed challenges including fragmented datasets, delayed reporting, limited real-time oversight and slower administrative response. The Vidya Samiksha Kendra has been designed to overcome these structural constraints through a unified digital architecture.
Operating as a centralised, real-time command and analytics platform, VSK enables education administrators to access accurate and actionable data instantly. This has significantly improved planning, implementation and monitoring of education policies and welfare schemes across the state, while also enabling faster corrective action wherever required.
The platform integrates multiple critical databases, including UDISE, HRMIS, PM POSHAN, Performance Grading Index (PGI), APAAR ID, Aadhaar authentication and GIS mapping. This integrated ecosystem provides continuous monitoring of school infrastructure, teacher deployment, student enrolment and attendance, learning outcomes, textbook distribution and scheme implementation at the grassroots level.
One of the most significant features of the Vidya Samiksha Kendra is its use of AI-based analytics and predictive modelling. These tools help identify early warning signs of student dropouts, learning gaps and attendance irregularities, allowing timely interventions. This proactive, data-led approach aligns closely with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasises equity, inclusion and quality learning outcomes.
The impact of the initiative is reflected in measurable outcomes. Around 87 per cent of students have been issued APAAR IDs, while nearly 89 per cent have completed Aadhaar verification. More than 2.13 crore textbooks are now tracked through barcode-based systems, leading to improved logistics, reduced leakages and an estimated saving of nearly ₹50 crore for the state.
The governance framework is further strengthened by a dedicated Command and Control Centre and an active Call Centre, which together facilitate grievance redressal, data validation, field-level feedback and direct engagement with stakeholders. These mechanisms have enhanced administrative responsiveness and reinforced public trust in the education system.
IBITF has noted that the Vidya Samiksha Kendra is not merely a technological intervention, but a catalyst for institutionalising a culture of data-driven governance. By embedding analytics into everyday decision-making, the state has transitioned towards a more transparent, responsive and results-oriented education administration.
As a Technology Innovation Hub established under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS), IBITF’s recognition places Chhattisgarh among the leading states pioneering scalable, citizen-centric digital public infrastructure. The Vidya Samiksha Kendra is now being viewed as a national reference point for education reform through technology, setting a new standard for governance innovation in India.
