Chhattisgarh Marks Ambedkar Jayanti with Statue Unveiling and Samrasta Bhoj in Raipur

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai unveils a 21-foot statue of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar in Raipur and participates in ‘Samrasta Bhoj’, highlighting the enduring relevance of constitutional values, social harmony, and equality on Ambedkar’s 135th birth anniversary.

TFP Bureau, Raipur, April 14,2026: Chhattisgarh commemorated the 135th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar with a series of events in the state capital, where Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai unveiled a grand 21-foot-tall statue of the architect of the Indian Constitution and later joined citizens in a ‘Samrasta Bhoj’ to promote social harmony and inclusiveness.

The towering statue, crafted from Panchdhatu (five metals), was unveiled at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Chowk in front of the Collectorate complex. The ceremony drew a large gathering of public representatives, social leaders and citizens who paid tribute to the visionary leader whose ideas continue to shape India’s democratic and social fabric.

Statue Symbolises Ideals of Equality and Justice

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister described Babasaheb’s life as a timeless inspiration for struggle, education and equality. He said the principles laid down by Dr. Ambedkar through the Indian Constitution have provided dignity, justice and opportunities to millions belonging to deprived and marginalised communities.

“Babasaheb’s vision continues to guide society on the path of justice, equality and social transformation,” Shri Sai said, adding that his contributions remain deeply relevant in shaping a progressive and inclusive India.

The Chief Minister emphasised that the Constitution ensures every citizen fundamental rights such as equality, liberty and justice, creating a framework in which all sections of society can move forward with dignity and equal opportunity.

Highlighting Dr. Ambedkar’s emphasis on education, Shri Sai recalled how Babasaheb pursued higher studies at Columbia University despite facing immense social and economic hardships. “His journey proves that education is the most powerful instrument of social transformation,” he said.

₹60 Lakh Sanctioned for Community Facilities

Responding to a request from the organising committee, the Chief Minister also announced financial assistance of ₹60 lakh for local development works, including the construction of a Mangal Bhawan (community hall) and renovation of facilities around the Ambedkar Chowk area. The funding is expected to strengthen community activities and improve civic infrastructure in the locality.

Shri Sai noted that statues of Babasaheb installed across the country reflect the deep respect and admiration people hold for him. Celebrations of his birth anniversary across Chhattisgarh, he said, serve as a powerful reminder of the values of equality, justice and education that he championed.

Participation in Samrasta Bhoj

Later in the day, the Chief Minister participated in a ‘Samrasta Bhoj’ organised at Durga Maidan, where he sat with citizens and public representatives to share a meal and personally served food to attendees.

The programme symbolised the spirit of social unity and inclusiveness, reinforcing the message that harmony and equality are essential pillars of a vibrant democracy.

Addressing the gathering at the event, Shri Sai said the Constitution drafted under Dr. Ambedkar’s leadership remains the soul of India’s democracy. “It provides a framework for over 140 crore citizens to live with rights, dignity and equality,” he said.

He also highlighted Dr. Ambedkar’s lifelong commitment to uplifting weaker sections of society and promoting women’s education and dignity. The Chief Minister observed that the social reform movement initiated by Jyotirao Phule and Savitribai Phule for education and social awareness was further strengthened by Babasaheb, giving it new direction and momentum.

Tribute to Ambedkar’s Legacy

Referring to national initiatives, Shri Sai noted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, key sites associated with Dr. Ambedkar’s life are being developed as the “Panch Teerth,” ensuring that future generations remain connected with his legacy and contributions.

He also reiterated that the ideals of equality and social justice championed by Babasaheb continue to guide the state government’s efforts toward inclusive development.

“Babasaheb’s vision remains a guiding force as we work toward building a developed India and a developed Chhattisgarh,” the Chief Minister said, urging citizens to embrace constitutional values and actively contribute to building a society based on harmony, equality and justice.

Dignitaries Attend the Programme

Several prominent leaders and public representatives attended the programmes, including Skill Development Minister Guru Khushwant Saheb, Member of Parliament Brijmohan Agarwal, MLA Kiran Singh Deo, Raipur Mayor Meenal Choubey and MLA Purandar Mishra.

Also present were Sanjay Srivastava, Chairman of the Chhattisgarh Food and Civil Supplies Corporation, Amarjeet Singh Chhabra, Chairman of the Chhattisgarh Minorities Commission, and several other public representatives, social leaders and citizens who joined the celebrations honouring the legacy of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.
