Probe Ordered into Vedanta Plant Blast in Sakti

Bilaspur Divisional Commissioner tasked with investigating fatal boiler accident; report to be submitted within 30 days

Raipur, April 17: The Chhattisgarh government has ordered a high-level inquiry into the deadly accident at the Vedanta power plant in Singhitarai village of Sakti district. The order was issued by the state’s General Administration Department following the April 14 mishap that claimed several lives and left many workers seriously injured.

According to official information, the accident occurred in Unit-1 of the boiler section at the facility operated by Vedanta Power Limited in Singhitarai under Dabhra tehsil of Sakti district. Preliminary reports indicate that the incident was triggered by a technical fault at the joint connecting a water supply pipe to a steam pipe, leading to a powerful blast inside the boiler unit.

Considering the seriousness of the incident and the loss of lives, the state government has appointed the Commissioner of Bilaspur Division as the Inquiry Officer to conduct a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.

The inquiry will examine several aspects, including the sequence of events that led to the explosion, the technical and operational factors responsible for the accident, and whether safety protocols were followed at the plant. The investigation will also identify lapses, if any, and recommend corrective measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

As per the government order, the Inquiry Officer has been directed to complete the investigation and submit a comprehensive report to the state government within 30 days.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has taken serious note of the incident and has directed officials to ensure a transparent and time-bound inquiry. He has also instructed the administration to take strict action against those found responsible for negligence or safety violations.

The accident at the Vedanta plant has raised concerns about industrial safety standards and worker protection in large-scale industrial facilities. The state government has assured that the findings of the inquiry will be used to strengthen safety mechanisms and prevent such tragedies in the future.
