Statewide awareness drive by Brahma Kumaris to promote environmental protection, disaster preparedness, tree plantation and water conservation across Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh
TFP Bureau, Raipur, July 26, 2026: Stressing the urgent need to protect natural resources for future generations, Governor Shri Ramen Deka on Sunday said that maintaining harmony between humans, flora and fauna is essential for environmental sustainability, while water conservation must become a collective priority to avert future water crises.
The Governor made these remarks while inaugurating the ‘Environmental Conservation and Disaster Management’national awareness campaign organized by the Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwavidyalaya. He flagged off the campaign, which will travel from Raipur to Jabalpur between July 26 and August 9, spreading awareness about environmental protection and disaster preparedness across various districts of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.
Campaign to Promote Public Awareness
Describing the initiative as a movement for public awakening rather than just a journey, Governor Deka said the campaign would encourage citizens to adopt environmentally responsible practices, including tree plantation, water conservation, reduction of plastic use, and sustainable lifestyles.
He emphasized that climate change, rising temperatures, pollution and declining water resources have emerged as major global concerns and warned that Chhattisgarh, too, could face water scarcity in the coming years if timely conservation measures are not taken.
Nature is Our Greatest Heritage
Highlighting the state’s rich natural resources, the Governor said Chhattisgarh is blessed with dense forests, perennial rivers and diverse biodiversity, all of which constitute its invaluable heritage. He noted that the state’s tribal communities have long promoted a tradition of living in harmony with nature, offering valuable lessons in environmental stewardship.
However, he cautioned that the state is not immune to the growing impacts of climate change and called for concerted efforts to preserve forests, protect water bodies and safeguard ecological balance.
Focus on Water Conservation and Renewable Energy
Governor Deka urged citizens and institutions to prioritize rainwater harvesting, efficient water use and the restoration of traditional water sources. He also advocated greater adoption of eco-friendly technologies and renewable energy to reduce environmental pollution and promote sustainable development.
Concern Over Single-Use Plastic
Expressing concern over the increasing presence of microplastics in the environment, the Governor said scientific findings indicating the presence of microplastics even in breast milk underscore the seriousness of the issue. He appealed to the public to reduce dependence on single-use plastics and actively participate in campaigns aimed at protecting the environment.
Preparedness Can Reduce Disaster Impact
Speaking on disaster management, Governor Deka observed that while natural disasters cannot always be prevented, their impact can be significantly minimized through preparedness, public awareness and effective disaster management systems. He said changing weather patterns and the increasing frequency of extreme climatic events demand a more responsible and sustainable approach towards nature.
Science and Spirituality Must Go Hand in Hand
The Governor said the campaign reflects the harmony between science and spirituality, adding that practices such as Rajyoga help cultivate positive thinking, self-discipline and greater sensitivity towards the environment. He emphasized that moral and spiritual values are as important as technological advancement in building a sustainable future.
Call for Mass Participation
Appealing for public participation, Governor Deka urged every citizen to save every drop of water, avoid single-use plastic, and make tree plantation a people’s movement. He encouraged every individual to plant at least one sapling and nurture it with the same care as a child, saying that every small environmental action taken today would help secure a safer, greener and more prosperous future for coming generations.
