PSU Oil Companies Ensure Uninterrupted LPG and Fuel Supply Across Chhattisgarh

Over 72,000 LPG cylinders delivered daily; authorities conduct raids to curb black-marketing and hoarding

TFP Bureau, Raipur, April 20,2026: Public sector oil marketing companies have assured uninterrupted availability of LPG and automotive fuels across Chhattisgarh, stating that supplies remain stable despite recent geopolitical uncertainties affecting global energy markets.

Leading public sector companies—Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited—have maintained steady distribution of domestic LPG cylinders as well as petrol and diesel across the state. Officials said domestic LPG supply has been prioritised to ensure households continue receiving refills without disruption.

72,000 LPG Cylinders Supplied Daily

According to industry estimates, around 72,000 LPG cylinders are currently being delivered daily across the state, which is consistent with normal supply levels before the recent geopolitical tensions. Oil marketing companies stated that this supply level is sufficient to meet current consumer demand.

The state has five LPG bottling plants operated by public sector oil companies—two by Indian Oil, one by Bharat Petroleum and two by Hindustan Petroleum. These facilities maintain adequate stock levels and receive continuous supply inputs to ensure smooth operations.

LPG cylinders are distributed to consumers through a network of 539 distributors across the state, including 268 distributors of Indian Oil, 112 of Bharat Petroleum and 159 of Hindustan Petroleum. Besides domestic LPG, commercial LPG supplies are also being released to various sectors in accordance with established guidelines and under the monitoring of both oil companies and the state government.

5-kg Cylinders for Students and Migrant Workers

To support consumers with lower gas consumption or those without permanent local address proof—such as students, migrant labourers and young professionals—oil marketing companies are supplying 5-kg LPG cylinders as a convenient alternative.

Special outreach camps are also being organised by distributors in major industrial clusters including Urla, Siltara, Hathkoj, Tifra, Sirgitti, Pathripali and Bhupdeopur. These camps are aimed at helping workers and residents of industrial areas obtain LPG connections and refill services more easily.

Digital LPG Booking Gains Momentum

Officials said consumers are increasingly using digital platforms to book LPG refills. Nearly 98 percent of refill bookings are currently being received through digital channels such as SMS, missed calls and IVRS systems.

Cylinder deliveries are being carried out using Delivery Authentication Codes (DAC OTP) to ensure that cylinders are handed over only to genuine consumers, thereby improving transparency and preventing misuse.

Action Against Black-Marketing

Oil companies stated that they are closely monitoring complaints related to irregularities by certain LPG distributors. Reports of malpractice received through social media and customer feedback are being investigated, and surprise inspections are being conducted to prevent hoarding and black-marketing.

District authorities across Chhattisgarh have intensified enforcement action in coordination with oil companies. So far, 419 raids have been conducted across the state, resulting in the registration of 105 FIRs and the seizure of 3,946 LPG cylinders suspected to be involved in illegal activities.

Authorities said strict vigilance will continue to ensure fair distribution and prevent supply disruptions.

Petrol and Diesel Supply Also Stable

Fuel availability at petrol pumps across the state remains adequate, with oil companies ensuring uninterrupted supply through a well-established logistics network.

Currently, the oil industry operates 2,587 retail outlets (petrol pumps) across Chhattisgarh. These include 1,029 outlets of Indian Oil, 672 of Bharat Petroleum, 815 of Hindustan Petroleum, and 71 outlets run by private oil companies.

The state’s fuel supply chain is supported by two fuel terminals and one bulk petroleum depot, which maintain sufficient storage capacity. Stocks are continuously replenished through pipelines and railway tank wagons to ensure smooth distribution.

Fuel Supply Increased During Agricultural Season

At present, oil companies are supplying approximately 5,600 kilolitres (KL) of petrol and 9,800 KL of diesel per day in the state. Before the recent geopolitical developments, supply levels were around 3,800 KL of petrol and 6,500 KL of diesel daily.

Officials said the increased supply is helping meet higher demand during the ongoing agricultural season as well as routine transportation needs.

Public Urged Not to Panic

Oil marketing companies have urged consumers not to believe rumours about any shortage of LPG or fuel and to avoid panic buying or unnecessary stockpiling.

Officials emphasised that adequate stocks are available and the supply chain remains robust. The companies reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining seamless fuel availability, ensuring transparency in distribution, and taking strict action against any malpractices that may affect consumers.
