Shri Vishnu Deo Sai inaugurates Kachna railway overbridge, major relief for Raipur traffic

Capital city receives major infrastructure boost; lakhs of people to get relief from traffic congestion

TFP Bureau, Raipur, May 22, 2026: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai on Friday inaugurated the Kachna railway overbridge in Raipur, dedicating the long-awaited infrastructure project to the public and providing a major boost to the city’s traffic network. The Chief Minister also inaugurated the widening of the Shankar Nagar-Khamhardih-Kachna road, completed at a cost of Rs 22.79 crore.

Calling infrastructure development a top priority of the state government, Shri Sai said the overbridge would significantly ease congestion at the busy Kachna railway crossing, where commuters had faced traffic bottlenecks for years. With the opening of the bridge, residents of Kachna, Khamhardih and adjoining areas will now benefit from smoother, safer and uninterrupted travel.

Chief Minister said the project was approved under the Central Road Fund Scheme of the Union Government. He noted that office-goers, students, traders and daily commuters would all benefit from reduced traffic snarls and shorter travel time.

Built at a cost of Rs 48.78 crore, the overbridge is 787 metres long and 13 metres wide. The state government said the project would further strengthen Raipur’s traffic infrastructure and improve connectivity across the city.

Shri Sai hailed the Central Government for financial support and congratulated Deputy Chief Minister and PWD Minister Arun Sao along with Public Works Department officials for completing the project within the stipulated timeline while maintaining construction quality.

Deputy Chief Minister Shri Arun Sao said nearly 25 major colonies in the Kachna area would directly benefit from the overbridge, which he described as a “lifeline” connecting Kachna with Raipur city. He added that commuters travelling towards Bilaspur and Balodabazar would also experience easier movement.

Shri Sao said the state is witnessing unprecedented infrastructure expansion, with the Public Works Department receiving approvals worth over Rs 13,000 crore for the first time. He said the government is simultaneously focusing on high-speed roads as well as extending road connectivity to villages that still lack proper access.
