Take all necessary steps to prevent road accidents: Chief Secretary Shri Vikas Sheel

Regular monitoring of black spots directed; EV charging stations set up at 150 locations across state

TFP Bureau, Raipur, May 25, 2026: Addressing a review meeting on road safety at the Mantralaya, Chief Secretary Shri Vikas Sheel on Monday directed officials to ensure all necessary and concrete measures to prevent road accidents in the state.

*Special emphasis on improvement of black spots

Chief Secretary stressed regular monitoring of identified accident-prone black spots and directed officials to carry out immediate improvement works. He asked officials of the National Highways and Public Works Department to work in coordination to improve road conditions and reduce accident risks.

*Review of Supreme Court and Central schemes

The meeting reviewed implementation of the State Road Safety Fund, Supreme Court directions in the Phulodi and Ranga Reddy road accident cases, and the progress of the PM Relief Scheme and PM E-Drive Scheme. Shri Vikas Sheel directed officials to ensure full compliance with the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety guidelines. The implementation of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways’ SOP on road accident rescue was also reviewed.

*Instructions to increase EV charging stations

The Chief Secretary directed the Transport Department to speed up installation of EV charging stations under the PM E-Drive Scheme. Officials informed that EV charging stations have so far been installed at 150 locations across the state, where subsidies are also being provided under the scheme.

*Cashless treatment for injured persons

Shri Vikas Sheel said immediate treatment for road accident victims is a top priority. Under the PM Relief Scheme, injured persons are provided cashless treatment in hospitals. He directed officials of the Health, Home, Police, Transport departments and district administrations to work in coordination with sensitivity. Officials informed that 282 road accident victims have been so far been registered for treatment under the scheme.

The meeting was attended by Transport Secretary and Commissioner Shri S. Prakash, Urban Administration Secretary Ms. R. Shangeeta, and senior officials of the Police Department, National Highways Authority, Public Works Department and other concerned departments.
