Under PM Surya Ghar Yojana, district generates 13.8 lakh units of green power every month, significantly reducing household electricity bills
TFP Bureau, Raipur, June 6,2026: Chhattisgarh is witnessing a major transformation in clean energy adoption under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, with Raigarh district emerging as a frontrunner in the state’s drive toward energy self-reliance and sustainable development.
Backed by extensive awareness campaigns launched by the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, the ambitious solar rooftop scheme has gained remarkable momentum across the state. In Raigarh district alone, solar rooftop plants have been installed on 2,705 households, enabling families to generate their own electricity and substantially reduce their monthly power expenses.
According to official data, the combined capacity of the installed solar plants in the district has crossed 11,504 kilowatts. These rooftop systems are generating nearly 46,000 units of green electricity every day and approximately 13.80 lakh units per month, reducing dependence on conventional energy sources while contributing to environmental conservation.
The scheme has also witnessed growing public participation and trust. A total of 6,701 applications have been received in Raigarh so far. During May alone, 912 fresh applications were submitted, of which solar installations have already been completed in 411 homes. On average, the district is receiving around 228 new applications every week, while more than 100 households are being equipped with solar panels on a regular basis.
The initiative is proving particularly beneficial during the summer season, when soaring temperatures increase the use of air conditioners, coolers and other electrical appliances, often leading to high electricity bills. Beneficiary families are now generating a significant portion of their electricity requirements through solar energy, resulting in minimal monthly power costs.
Officials from the Electricity Department said the coordinated efforts of the Central and State Governments have made solar installations affordable for consumers. Eligible beneficiaries are receiving subsidies of up to ₹1.08 lakh, while easy bank loan facilities have also been arranged to support the installation of rooftop solar systems.
The department stated that a 1-kilowatt solar plant can generate around 120 units of electricity per month. A 2-kilowatt system produces nearly 240 units, while a 3-kilowatt plant can generate about 360 units monthly, making solar energy a viable option for meeting household electricity needs.
The application process under the scheme has been designed to be simple, transparent and completely digital. Interested consumers can apply through the PM Surya Ghar Portal, mobile application, CSPDCL’s online services, or seek assistance through the toll-free consumer helpline number 1912. The online platform also allows applicants to choose authorized vendors without the involvement of intermediaries.
Officials believe the rapid expansion of rooftop solar installations in Raigarh reflects the growing acceptance of renewable energy in Chhattisgarh and is helping advance the vision of a clean, green and self-reliant India. The success of the scheme is not only reducing household electricity expenses but also contributing significantly to the state’s transition toward sustainable energy and environmental protection.
