Global leaders praise his transformative governance, economic vision and leadership of the Global South
TFP Bureau, New Delhi, June 9,2026: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi received congratulatory messages from several world leaders after becoming India’s longest continuously serving democratically elected Prime Minister, marking a significant milestone in the country’s political history.
Leaders from across the globe lauded Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, governance reforms, economic transformation initiatives and his role as a prominent voice for the Global South. They also highlighted India’s growing influence on the world stage under his stewardship.
In a letter dated June 8, Sri Lankan President Shri Anura Kumara Dissanayake conveyed the congratulations of the Government and people of Sri Lanka, describing the achievement as a reflection of the trust and confidence repeatedly reposed in Prime Minister Modi by the people of the world’s largest democracy.
The Sri Lankan President praised India’s remarkable economic and social progress under Modi’s leadership and noted that his vision had inspired many countries, including Sri Lanka. He also acknowledged India’s steadfast support to Sri Lanka during its economic crisis in 2022. Prime Minister Modi had visited Sri Lanka in April 2025, during which he was conferred the prestigious Mitra Vibhushana, the country’s highest civilian honour awarded to a foreign dignitary.
Papua New Guinea Prime Minister Shri James Marape, in a personal video message, described Prime Minister Modi as a role model and an example of leadership. He commended India’s achievements in poverty alleviation, noting that lifting more than 200 million people out of poverty was an extraordinary accomplishment.
Prime Minister Marape also expressed his country’s desire to further strengthen bilateral ties with India. He recalled Prime Minister Modi’s historic visit to Papua New Guinea in May 2023 for the Third Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation Summit, the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the Pacific nation, which significantly deepened India’s engagement with island countries of the region.
Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Smt. Kamla Persad-Bissessar also extended her congratulations, stating that India has emerged as a leading voice on global issues under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership. She highlighted his journey from humble beginnings to leading a nation of more than 1.4 billion people through three consecutive terms.
She further praised India’s achievements in foreign policy, economic growth, infrastructure development and social welfare initiatives. Referring to Prime Minister Modi’s landmark visit to Trinidad and Tobago in July 2025, she noted that it was the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the Caribbean nation in 26 years and had significantly strengthened ties between the two countries.
The congratulatory messages from world leaders underscore India’s growing global stature and recognition of Prime Minister Modi’s leadership on international platforms. Observers noted that the milestone reflects not only political longevity but also India’s expanding role in global diplomacy, economic development and South-South cooperation.
The occasion was marked by tributes to Prime Minister Modi’s governance model, his efforts to promote inclusive development and his advocacy for developing nations, reinforcing India’s position as a key global partner in an increasingly interconnected world.
