High-level review of PMGSY in Chhattisgarh

Chief Secretary directs connectivity for all unlinked habitations

TFP Bureau, Raipur, June 16,2026: In the 28th meeting of State-Level Standing Committee on Tuesday a high-level review of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) was held at Mahanadi Bhawan under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Shri Vikas Sheel. During the meeting the officials directed to ensure quality in rural road construction and expedite project execution.

*Survey and clearances before construction*
Shri Vikas Sheel instructed officials to conduct detailed ground surveys before taking up road projects and ensure completion of land acquisition and forest clearances before construction begins. He also directed priority repair and restoration of rural roads damaged during pipeline-laying works under the Jal Jeevan Mission.

*PMGSY Phase-IV: All unconnected habitations to be linked*
Chief Secretary directed officials to identify all habitations that are yet to be connected by all-weather roads under PMGSY Phase-IV. A comprehensive plan will be prepared to link these settlements with the main road network.

*52 roads completed in Bastar’s Maoist-affected areas*
Officials of the Panchayat and Rural Development Department informed the meeting that under PMGSY Phases I, II and III, the state has completed construction of 8,358 roads and around 447 bridges and culverts. During 2025-26, 52 pending roads in remote Maoist-affected areas of the Bastar division were completed with the support of security forces. In addition, 31 major bridges were completed under Phase-III.

*Progress under PM JANMAN scheme*

Against the Centre’s target of 1,372 km, the state has completed construction of 1,517 km of roads. Of the 807 roads sanctioned for 872 habitations of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs), work on 366 roads has been completed, while construction is underway on 429 roads.

The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary, Panchayat and Rural Development, Smt Richa Sharma; Principal Secretary, Home, Smt Niharika Barik Singh; Secretary to the Chief Minister and Mineral Resources Secretary, Shri P. Dayanand; Housing and Environment Secretary, Shri Ankit Anand; Public Health Engineering Secretary, Shri Mohammad Qaiser Abdul Haq; and CEO of the Chhattisgarh Rural Road Development Agency, Shri Bhim Singh, along with senior officials from the Forest, Transport, Public Works and Finance departments and the National Informatics Centre.
