Government ensures timely supply of seeds and fertilisers as Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai directs officials to support farmers; agricultural loans cross ₹5,500 crore
TFP Bureau, Raipur, July 2,2026: Agricultural activities have gathered pace across Chhattisgarh following the onset of the monsoon, with sowing completed over 6.25 lakh hectares as of July 2, accounting for 13 per cent of the state’s Kharif target of 48.69 lakh hectares.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has instructed officials to ensure farmers receive certified seeds and fertilisers according to their requirements without delay. He has also directed strict monitoring of the supply chain and warned of action against any negligence in the distribution system. Adequate stocking of agricultural inputs at cooperative societies has also been ordered.
Under the guidance of Agriculture Development and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ramvichar Netam, the Agriculture Department is closely monitoring farming operations and the availability of essential inputs across the state.
According to official figures, farmers have so far received 7.28 lakh metric tonnes of fertilisers and 3.09 lakh quintals of certified seeds. Officials said sowing is progressing steadily for major Kharif crops, including paddy, maize, kodo, kutki, pigeon pea (arhar), green gram (moong), groundnut and niger seed (ramtil).
The Chhattisgarh State Seed Corporation has targeted the distribution of 4.95 lakh quintals of certified seeds during the 2026 Kharif season. Of this, 4.30 lakh quintals have already been stocked, while 3.09 lakh quintals—around 62 per cent of the target—have been distributed. During the corresponding period last year, certified seed distribution stood at 2.67 lakh quintals.
Similarly, against the seasonal fertiliser distribution target of 15.55 lakh metric tonnes, the state has stocked 13.16 lakh metric tonnes across cooperative and private outlets. So far, 7.28 lakh metric tonnes—around 47 per cent of the target—have been supplied to farmers.
The state has also intensified the disbursement of short-term crop loans through Kisan Credit Cards to facilitate agricultural operations. As of June 30, loans worth ₹5,525 crore had been sanctioned for the Kharif 2026 season, compared to ₹4,517 crore during the same period last year. The state has set a crop loan distribution target of ₹8,800 crore for the current season.
Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh has recorded an average rainfall of 96.4 mm so far this season, against its annual average rainfall of 1,246.3 mm, with officials expecting sowing activity to accelerate further as rainfall intensifies in the coming weeks.
