Governor awards degrees to 688 students at O.P. Jindal University’s 6th Convocation, urges youth to use education for public good and social transformation
TFP Bureau, Raipur, August 1,2026: Chhattisgarh Governor Ramen Deka called upon the youth to become agents of nation-building by combining knowledge, innovation and ethical values, stating that the true purpose of education lies in serving society with wisdom, integrity and social responsibility.
Addressing the 6th Convocation Ceremony of O.P. Jindal University in Raigarh as the chief guest on Saturday, the Governor said education should not be viewed merely as a means to earn degrees, but as a powerful tool to create lasting positive change in society.
A total of 688 undergraduate and postgraduate students from the University’s School of Engineering, School of Management and School of Science were conferred degrees during the convocation. In recognition of academic excellence, 27 students received gold medals, 28 were awarded silver medals and 29 students were honoured with bronze medals.
Congratulating the graduating students, Governor Deka said an individual’s true worth is measured not by certificates but by meaningful contributions to society and the nation. He urged every student to perform at least one significant act in life that would leave a lasting impact on society and inspire future generations.
Highlighting the challenges and opportunities of the modern era, the Governor said the world is being shaped by rapid technological advancements, innovation and intense global competition. He stressed that higher educational institutions must go beyond classroom teaching and nurture young leaders equipped with research aptitude, leadership qualities, compassion, ethical values and a strong sense of social responsibility.
“The real value of education lies in applying knowledge with wisdom, foresight and moral courage. Knowledge becomes meaningful only when it contributes to the welfare of society and humanity,” he said.
Expressing confidence in the graduating students, the Governor said they would play a vital role in India’s development by applying their knowledge, talent and values to address contemporary challenges and contribute to nation-building.
The convocation ceremony was attended by Jindal Steel Chairman and Member of Parliament Naveen Jindal, University Chancellor Shallu Jindal, Chairman of the Chhattisgarh Private Universities Regulatory Commission Prof. Vijay Kumar Goyal, Executive Director of Jindal Steel, Raigarh, Debojyoti Roy, Vice-Chancellor Dr. R.D. Patidar, faculty members, students and their families.
