36.4-km stretch to be upgraded; Deputy CM Arun Sao directs timely completion and strict quality control
TFP Bureau, Raipur, August 7,2026: In a major infrastructure boost for central Chhattisgarh, the state government has approved ₹21.81 crore for the widening of the existing Nandghat–Mungeli road into a four-lane corridor. The project will cover a 36.40-kilometre stretch connecting Nandghat in Bemetara district with the Mungeli district headquarters, aiming to improve road connectivity and facilitate smoother transportation.
The sanction was approved by Deputy Chief Minister and Public Works Minister Arun Sao, following which the state government issued the formal sanction order to the Engineer-in-Chief of the Public Works Department (PWD) from the Mantralaya.
Emphasising the importance of quality infrastructure, Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao directed officials to ensure the highest standards in both construction materials and execution. He warned that any compromise in quality at any stage of the project would invite strict accountability and action as per the rules.
The Public Works Department has instructed the Engineer-in-Chief to complete the tendering process within the prescribed timeline while maintaining cost efficiency in project estimates and implementation. The executing agency has also been directed to complete the construction within the contractual period.
The government has stressed that unnecessary delays will not be tolerated. Officials have been instructed to avoid granting routine extensions, with any extension to be approved only by the competent authority under exceptional and unavoidable circumstances. The department has further directed that penalties be imposed in accordance with prescribed rules in cases where project timelines are extended.
The four-laning of the Nandghat–Mungeli road is expected to improve regional connectivity, enhance road safety, facilitate faster movement of passengers and goods, and support the state’s expanding infrastructure network.
