Employment-oriented policies, rural livelihood initiatives and industrial growth contribute to lower joblessness in the state
TFP Bureau, Raipur, May 12, 2026: The latest findings of the Periodic Labour Force Survey 2025 released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Government of India, indicate that Chhattisgarh has recorded an unemployment rate of just 2.3 per cent, significantly lower than the national average.
Officials said the figures highlight the positive impact of the state government’s employment-oriented development policies, which emphasise inclusive growth, strengthening rural livelihoods and expanding opportunities for self-employment and entrepreneurship.
According to the survey data, the state’s economic landscape has been steadily transforming due to sustained focus on employment generation, skill development and grassroots economic empowerment. Government initiatives have aimed not only at providing jobs but also at ensuring stable income sources, dignified livelihoods and long-term self-reliance for citizens.
A key factor behind the improved employment scenario has been the strengthening of agriculture and allied sectors, which continue to serve as the backbone of the state’s economy. Policies promoting farm productivity, procurement of minor forest produce at support prices, and enhanced participation of rural communities in local economic activities have played a significant role in boosting livelihoods.
Officials noted that the expansion of self-help groups, promotion of micro and cottage industries, and support for small enterprises have created additional income opportunities in rural areas. These initiatives have particularly benefited women and youth by enabling them to engage in local economic activities and entrepreneurship.
The state government has also implemented various skill development programmes aimed at equipping young people with industry-relevant capabilities. Training initiatives linked to local employment opportunities have helped many youths transition into skilled jobs, self-employment ventures and small businesses.
Authorities said welfare programmes and rural livelihood initiatives have also helped reduce migration from villages by generating employment opportunities closer to home. This has strengthened local economies, increased rural purchasing power and encouraged grassroots entrepreneurship.
Another factor contributing to job creation has been the implementation of the state’s new industrial policy, the Chhattisgarh Industrial Development Policy 2024–30. The policy seeks to attract investment and promote balanced industrial growth across sectors such as information technology, food processing, textiles, logistics and manufacturing. As new industrial units are established in different parts of the state, fresh employment opportunities are emerging for local youth.
The government is also focusing on ensuring balanced development between rural and urban regions so that economic progress reaches every section of society. Efforts are being made to connect local resources, skills and markets in order to generate sustainable employment across districts.
Commenting on the survey findings, Vishnu Deo Sai, Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, said the state government remains committed to empowering every youth, farmer, woman and worker with opportunities for growth, dignity and self-reliance.
He stated that transparent governance, effective welfare schemes and employment-oriented development policies have strengthened the foundation of economic growth in the state. “Our priority is to ensure that development translates into meaningful opportunities for people at every level,” the Chief Minister said.
Expressing optimism about the state’s future growth trajectory, Sai added that continued investment, skill development and inclusive governance would further strengthen Chhattisgarh’s position as one of India’s emerging growth-driven states in the coming years.
