Over 17.8 lakh workers benefit from welfare schemes; digital services, social security and labour reforms strengthen livelihoods across the state
TFP Bureau, Raipur, August 7,2026: The Chhattisgarh government has highlighted significant achievements in labour welfare over the past two-and-a-half years, underscoring its efforts to improve the social and economic well-being of workers through expanded welfare schemes, digital governance, and labour reforms.
According to the Labour Department, the state has placed worker welfare at the centre of its development agenda under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai. The department, guided by Labour and Industry Minister Lakhanlal Dewangan, has focused on ensuring greater transparency, faster service delivery and wider access to welfare benefits for organised, unorganised and construction workers.
The government said 67 welfare schemes are currently being implemented through various labour welfare boards to support workers and their families. To simplify access to these schemes, the department has launched the ‘Shramev Jayate’ online portal and mobile application, enabling workers to register, apply for benefits and access services digitally.
In a move aimed at strengthening labour administration, offices have been established across all 33 districts of the state. New Labour Officer offices have been created in five recently formed districts—Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki, Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai, Sarangarh-Bilaigarh, Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur and Sakti. The government said several labour law reforms have also been introduced, including measures related to fixed-term employment, implementation of the Shops and Establishments Act, extended validity of factory licences and provisions allowing women to work night shifts with appropriate safeguards.
The department reported that nearly 12.65 lakh workers were newly registered between January 2024 and June 2026. During the same period, around 17.82 lakh workers received benefits under various welfare schemes, with total assistance exceeding ₹800 crore. Of this, approximately ₹780 crore was disbursed to construction workers, while nearly ₹187 crore was provided to workers in the unorganised sector through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), ensuring greater transparency in fund distribution.
To improve accessibility, the government has established the Chief Minister’s Labour Assistance Centre, which operates round the clock. Mobile camps organised across the state have helped workers in remote areas complete registrations, renewals and benefit applications without travelling long distances.
The state has also expanded social security measures for workers’ families. Financial assistance under the Chief Minister’s Construction Worker Housing Assistance Scheme has been increased to ₹1.5 lakh. Additional support is being provided through schemes covering death and disability assistance, scholarships and educational aid for workers’ children.
Special emphasis has been placed on women workers through the Minimata Mahatari Jatan Yojana, under which more than 1.60 lakh women from the construction and unorganised sectors have received maternity assistance. Registered workers also continue to benefit from the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Shram Anna Yojana, which provides nutritious meals at a subsidised cost of ₹5.
The government said educational assistance, scholarships and free coaching programmes for competitive examinations are helping improve opportunities for the children of workers, while the combined focus on technology-driven governance, social security and labour reforms is giving Chhattisgarh a stronger identity in the field of labour welfare.
Officials said the state’s labour welfare initiatives are aimed not only at extending financial assistance but also at creating a more secure, dignified and prosperous future for millions of working families across Chhattisgarh.
