Satendra Dubey, Councillor of Ward No. 39 of Korba Municipal Corporation, said BALCO has been consistently working towards the holistic development of the township and surrounding areas alongside its community development initiatives.
He highlighted the construction and widening of roads, modernisation and beautification of Ambedkar Stadium and other public welfare initiatives as examples of BALCO’s efforts to improve civic amenities and the quality of life of residents.
Dubey also appreciated the company’s large-scale plantation drives within the residential complex and the development of community centres. He said the focus on greenery and environmental conservation, along with facilities for social and family gatherings, has contributed positively to the township’s development.
Green spaces add to township’s appeal
BALCO Township is known for its greenery and open spaces. The development and beautification of Nehru Udyan, Forest Walkway, Smriti Udyan and Jubilee Park have added to the township’s visual appeal and provided residents with spaces for recreation and relaxation.
Improved greenery, lighting and public amenities have made these locations popular for morning and evening walks, family outings and spending time close to nature.
Focus on quality education
Education is another key component of the township’s development. Institutions including Delhi Public School, BALCO Township School, MGM School and Bal Sadan provide educational opportunities for children and young people.
Along with academic learning, these institutions emphasise personality development, discipline, creativity, sports and social responsibility, supporting the overall development of students.
BALCO Hospital strengthens healthcare services
Healthcare facilities are anchored by the 125-bed BALCO Hospital, which caters to residents of BALCO Nagar as well as surrounding communities.
The hospital provides general medical services along with specialised care in areas including paediatrics, gynaecology and obstetrics, orthopaedics, ENT, ophthalmology and dentistry. Its facilities include an intensive care unit, dialysis unit, pathology laboratory, CT scan, modular operation theatres and emergency services.
Scientific waste management gains importance
Efforts are also being made to strengthen waste management and maintain a cleaner and healthier environment in the township.
The Solid and Liquid Resource Management Centre collects household waste through electric vehicles and segregates it into organic and inorganic categories. Organic waste is processed into compost, while plastic waste is sent for responsible co-processing.
Residents are also being encouraged to adopt waste segregation at source through awareness and training programmes, helping promote greater community participation in sustainable waste management.
Social and recreational infrastructure expanded
The renovation of Mangal Bhavan has strengthened facilities for social, cultural and family gatherings, with amenities including a gymnasium.
The opening of an Indian Coffee House has added another social space to the township, providing employees, families, residents and visitors with a convenient place to meet and interact.
Sports infrastructure is also receiving attention, with work underway to modernise and beautify Ambedkar Stadium. Road construction and widening projects within the township and surrounding areas are further strengthening civic connectivity and public amenities.
