TFP Bureau, Raipur, April 15, 2025: A landmark event in the history of Chhattisgarh’s social and humanitarian sector took place today with the first-ever democratic election of office bearers for the Chhattisgarh Red Cross Society. This historic step was made possible through the visionary initiative of Governor Shri Ramen Deka, marking a new chapter for the organization that has been serving the people of the state since its establishment in 2001.
For the first time in the 24 years since the formation of Chhattisgarh, the Red Cross Society has selected its office bearers through a fair and transparent election process. The newly elected team includes President Toman Sahu (Balod), Vice President Rupesh Panigrahi (Jashpur), and Treasurer Sanjay Patel (Baloda Bazaar). The election has sparked a wave of enthusiasm and optimism across the state, from Raipur to Bastar, as social workers and volunteers now look forward to a more structured and accountable Red Cross Society.
Governor Deka, who has been instrumental in revitalizing the organization, expressed his confidence in the new office bearers, hoping they would steer the Red Cross to greater heights in its humanitarian efforts. “This election marks the beginning of a new chapter in social service in Chhattisgarh. Together, the elected leaders and volunteers will be a strong support for those in need,” said the Governor.
The Chhattisgarh Red Cross Society, headquartered in Raipur, has been instrumental in disaster management, health services, and social welfare throughout the state. In the wake of natural calamities such as floods and droughts, the Red Cross has been at the forefront, offering relief and medical assistance. Additionally, it has organized blood donation camps, health awareness campaigns, and provided education and livelihood support, particularly for rural and tribal communities.
Achievements of Red Cross in Chhattisgarh
Over the years, the Chhattisgarh Red Cross Society has made significant contributions to public welfare. During the COVID-19 pandemic, volunteers played a crucial role in distributing oxygen cylinders, medicines, and food to affected communities. The organization has also conducted health camps in remote areas like Bastar and Surguja, benefiting thousands of people. Its blood donation drives save hundreds of lives annually, and its special programs for women and children in tribal areas further demonstrate its commitment to social development.
Challenges and Opportunities Ahead
While the new office bearers face numerous challenges, they also have ample opportunities to extend the reach of the Red Cross Society to every corner of the state. Special focus will be needed on tribal areas, ensuring that health, education, and social welfare services are effectively delivered. Transparency in resource allocation and ensuring that aid reaches the most vulnerable communities are key priorities moving forward.
Volunteer Contribution: A Key Strength
The strength of the Red Cross Society lies in its dedicated volunteers, who serve across the state, from the streets of Raipur to the remote forests of Dantewada. The growing interest in the organization among youth is a positive sign for the future. Training camps for first aid, disaster management, and leadership skills continue to empower volunteers, enabling them to serve humanity in times of need.
With its renewed leadership and a committed volunteer base, the Chhattisgarh Red Cross Society is poised to make an even greater impact on the lives of those in need, strengthening the spirit of unity and service in the state.
