Three-day camps to be held in Jagdalpur from October 5–7 and Dantewada from October 15–17; beneficiaries to receive Jaipur Foot, prosthetic hands, calipers and other assistive devices
TFP Bureau, Raipur, October 4, 2026: The Chhattisgarh government will organise large-scale free service camps for persons with disabilities in Bastar division, with a special focus on people who lost limbs in IED blasts during years of Naxal violence.
Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma said the initiative aims to provide prosthetic limbs and assistive devices to people who have continued to face difficulties after sustaining disabilities in IED explosions. The camps will provide devices based on the individual requirements of beneficiaries, with technical support from the Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti, Jaipur.
The first three-day camp will be held in Jagdalpur from October 5 to 7 for beneficiaries from Bastar, Kanker, Narayanpur and Kondagaon districts. A second camp will be organised in Dantewada from October 15 to 17 for persons with disabilities from Dantewada, Sukma and Bijapur districts.
According to departmental data, 2,953 persons with disabilities from the four districts have been identified for the Jagdalpur camp. The list includes 1,570 beneficiaries from Bastar, 1,080 from Kondagaon, 236 from Kanker and 67 from Narayanpur.
Apart from prosthetic limbs, the camps will provide a range of assistive devices, including hearing aids, crutches, smart canes, walking sticks, standard canes, wheelchairs, tricycles and calipers. Equipment for persons with visual disabilities will also be made available.
Special focus on IED victims
Sharma said IED explosions had affected security personnel, civilians and animals during the period of Naxal violence, with several people sustaining permanent disabilities after losing limbs.
At the camps, people disabled by IED blasts will be specifically identified and provided prosthetic legs, including Jaipur Foot, prosthetic hands and other assistive devices according to their requirements. Persons who acquired disabilities due to other causes will also be eligible for assistance.
Experts will assess beneficiaries and take measurements for the fabrication of customised prosthetic limbs. Arrangements have also been made for repair of existing or damaged prosthetic devices.
Registration through local administration
The government has put in place a registration mechanism extending from the Gram Panchayat to the district level. Persons with disabilities, particularly IED blast victims, can approach District Collectors, Superintendents of Police, Chief Executive Officers of District Panchayats or Chief Executive Officers of Janpad Panchayats for registration.
Beneficiaries can also have their names registered during Gram Sabhas through Gram Panchayat secretaries. The details will subsequently be forwarded to the Janpad and District Panchayat levels.
Those unable to register in advance for any reason can directly approach the camps. The government has also made arrangements for food and accommodation for beneficiaries attending the camps.
Sharma said the initiative was aimed at reaching people across Bastar who have lived with disabilities caused by IED blasts for years and providing them with practical support to improve their quality of life. He also stressed the need to eliminate the threat posed by IED blasts in the region.
