BALCO expands healthcare outreach from community services to specialised medical care

‘Aarogya’ reaches more than 1.2 lakh people across 70-plus villages; BALCO Hospital and Naya Raipur’s BALCO Medical Center provide advanced treatment

TFP Bureau, Korba, October 8, 2026: Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO) has expanded its healthcare initiatives from primary and preventive services in rural communities to specialised and tertiary medical care through its hospital facilities in Chhattisgarh.

Through its community health project ‘Aarogya’, the company provided healthcare services to more than 1.2 lakh people across over 70 villages in Korba and other parts of Chhattisgarh during the year. The programme covers primary healthcare, maternal and child health, nutrition, preventive care and health awareness.

During the 2026 financial year, more than 92,000 people received primary, preventive and curative healthcare services under Aarogya. Around 4,800 people received regular medical consultations and primary treatment through three rural health centres, while two mobile health vans extended services to remote areas. Multi-specialty health camps also provided services in areas such as dental care, dermatology, orthopaedics and gynaecology.

As part of its maternal and child health initiatives, health check-ups were conducted for more than 3,300 children aged up to five years at 51 Anganwadi centres. Of these, 268 children were identified with varying degrees of malnutrition and provided special care, while 18 severely malnourished children were referred to a Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre.

Forty-five awareness camps on anaemia were organised for 1,137 pregnant women, mothers and adolescent girls, focusing on nutrition and adequate iron intake. Under the ‘Baby Steps Together’ initiative, more than 80 couples were trained on the role of fathers in supporting maternal care.

BALCO also conducted de-addiction awareness programmes through schools, youth forums, street plays and community camps, reaching more than 4,900 young people and community members. In addition, 110 awareness sessions on tuberculosis and HIV reached over 67,000 people, while more than 64 volunteers were trained.

Health awareness programmes were also held around Safe Motherhood Day, World Malaria Day, Breastfeeding Week, Nutrition Month and International Yoga Day.

BALCO Hospital treats 2.2 lakh patients annually

Beyond community-level healthcare, the 125-bed BALCO Hospital serves as a multi-specialty medical facility for BALCO employees and the surrounding region. The hospital treats approximately 2.2 lakh patients annually and provides services in General Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Dentistry and Physiotherapy.

Its diagnostic facilities include CT scan, 2D Echo, ultrasound, X-ray, Holter monitoring, spirometry and treadmill testing. Advanced procedures available at the hospital include joint replacement and arthroplasty, dialysis, phacoemulsification cataract surgery, laser proctology and endovenous laser ablation (EVLA).

The hospital has also strengthened its critical care and surgical infrastructure with 10 ICU beds and modern modular operation theatres.

Cancer care expanded through BMC

BALCO’s healthcare network also includes the BALCO Medical Center (BMC) in Naya Raipur, a 170-bed tertiary cancer care facility. The centre provides services covering cancer prevention, screening, diagnosis and treatment, including radiation therapy, brachytherapy, nuclear medicine, surgery, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, bone marrow transplantation and palliative care.

Since its establishment in 2018, BMC has treated approximately 76,000 patients, conducted nearly 14,000 major surgeries and administered more than 96,000 chemotherapy sessions. Over 600 community health screening and awareness programmes have also been conducted for cancer prevention and early detection.

The centre is expanding its Bone Marrow Transplant Unit and developing an endoscopy suite and other advanced cancer treatment facilities.

BMC has also been operating mobile cancer detection vans and conducting community health screening programmes. During the 2026 financial year, more than 20,000 people benefited from over 250 health camps and awareness programmes.

For needy patients, support is also provided for treatment expenses, accommodation, transportation, nutrition and other related requirements to help reduce the financial burden associated with cancer treatment.

A Cervical Cancer Elimination Programme for Chhattisgarh was also launched during the recently held BMC Cancer Conclave, with a focus on prevention, early detection and community-based screening.

BALCO said its community development programmes currently cover 128 villages across Korba, Kawardha, Surguja, Raigarh and Raipur districts. The company’s healthcare approach combines community-based services through Aarogya, specialised treatment through BALCO Hospital and tertiary cancer care through BMC.
