Chhattisgarh Showcases ₹5.60 Lakh Crore Energy Investment Potential at Global Summit

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai invites domestic and international investors, sets target of 15,000 MW green energy capacity by 2030; state unveils roadmap for renewable power, energy storage, biofuels and nuclear energy

TFP Bureau, New Delhi, November 2, 2026: Chhattisgarh has projected an investment potential of approximately ₹5.60 lakh crore in its energy sector over the next five years, presenting an ambitious roadmap for conventional and renewable power generation at the India Renewable Energy Summit & Expo 2026 in New Delhi.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai invited domestic and international investors to explore opportunities in the state, highlighting its resources, industrial policies and expanding energy infrastructure. The four-day global summit, being held at Bharat Mandapam from November 2 to 5, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Addressing a high-level roundtable attended by Union Ministers and Chief Ministers from various states, Sai said Chhattisgarh had prepared a comprehensive plan to expand its energy sector. The roadmap includes proposed investments of around ₹1.33 lakh crore in renewable energy projects with a combined capacity of 23,923 MW, and approximately ₹3.27 lakh crore for expanding thermal power generation.

The state has set a target of increasing its green energy capacity from the current 3,000 MW to 15,000 MW by 2030. It also aims to raise the share of green energy in its total electricity demand from around 15 per cent to more than 45 per cent.

Sai said Chhattisgarh, which already has more than 28,000 MW of coal-based thermal power generation capacity, was pursuing a balanced energy strategy by integrating thermal power with solar, hydropower, biomass and energy storage projects. The state would contribute to the national goal of developing 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based power generation capacity by 2030, he added.

Focus on energy storage and solar power

The Chief Minister said energy storage infrastructure was a priority to ensure reliable and uninterrupted electricity supply. Ten pumped-storage hydropower projects with a combined capacity of 12,300 MW have been identified, involving a proposed investment of approximately ₹65,000 crore. The state also plans to install battery energy storage systems with a capacity of 10,000 MWh over the next two years.

A 100 MW solar power project integrated with a 40 MW/120 MWh battery storage system is already operational in Rajnandgaon district.

Highlighting the expansion of solar power at the household and agricultural levels, Sai said Khaira village in Rajnandgaon had become the state’s first fully solar-powered village. Rooftop solar panels of 2 kW each have been installed in all 141 households, providing a combined capacity of 282 kW. Solar power is also being supplied to 93 houses built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, without any expenditure by the beneficiaries.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana, around 1.26 lakh solar systems have been installed across the state. Chhattisgarh also has 1.66 lakh solar irrigation pumps serving approximately 1.94 lakh hectares of farmland. Solar power plants with a proposed combined capacity of 395 MW are planned under the Pradhan Mantri KUSUM Yojana.

Opportunities in bioenergy and nuclear power

Sai said the state’s agricultural residues, cow dung and other organic resources offered considerable scope for compressed biogas, bio-ethanol and green hydrogen production.

Eight compressed biogas plants with a combined capacity of 80 metric tonnes are being planned, involving an estimated investment of ₹800 crore. The government is also processing private-sector investment proposals worth around ₹6,000 crore in this segment.

In addition, the state envisages investments of approximately ₹1.60 lakh crore in various energy projects, including nuclear power plants with a proposed capacity of around 4,200 MW.

The Chief Minister said the government was seeking to balance economic development, energy security and environmental conservation while creating new industrial opportunities and employment.

Global investors explore Chhattisgarh’s opportunities

During the summit, Sai visited the Chhattisgarh pavilion, which showcased major energy projects, renewable energy resources, technological initiatives and investment opportunities. He interacted with officials and industry representatives and briefed investors on the state’s policies, resources and infrastructure development plans.

The Chief Minister also unveiled a publication outlining Chhattisgarh’s renewable energy policy, investment opportunities, green energy initiatives and prospects for clean and sustainable power development. He said the publication would help investors and industry stakeholders understand the state’s policies, resources and future plans, adding that the government was working to position Chhattisgarh as a major destination for clean energy investment.

The summit has drawn participation from representatives of more than 130 countries, including over 40 ministers, policymakers, investors and leading energy companies. Australia, Denmark, the European Union, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom are participating as country partners. Chhattisgarh was among 13 states and Union Territories presenting their energy-sector potential and investment opportunities.

Organised around the theme ‘Investment, Innovation, and Inspiration’, the summit provides a platform for Chhattisgarh to promote its power generation capacity and future plans in renewable energy, modern technology and energy storage to a global audience.

Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi and Minister of State for Power and New and Renewable Energy Shripad Naik were among those present. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary Subodh Kumar Singh, CREDA Chairman Bhupendra Savanni and other officials also attended the event.
