Chhattisgarh Government Tightens Lift and Escalator Safety Norms

TFP Bureau, Raipur, April 27, 2025: In a significant move to enhance public safety, the Chhattisgarh government has mandated the registration, renewal, and regular inspection of all lifts and escalators across the state. The decision aims to ensure strict adherence to high safety standards, thereby safeguarding lives and property and reducing the risk of accidents.

On the directive of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai, all services related to lifts and escalators have now been brought under the ambit of the Public Service Guarantee Act. This means that essential services, including inspections and approvals, must be completed within 30 days. Failure to do so will make the responsible officers liable for delays, ensuring accountability and timely service to industries and commercial establishments.

Chief Minister Sai emphasized the government’s commitment to public welfare, stating, “The safety and facilities of the general public are our top priority. By bringing lift and escalator services under the Public Service Guarantee Act, we aim to deliver timely, reliable services and maintain public trust.”

Meanwhile, the Chief Electrical Inspectorate has appealed to builders, commercial establishments, and lift operators to strictly comply with the new safety regulations. Officials noted that adherence to these norms will not only enhance public safety but also reduce insurance costs and minimize business risks.

The new regulations are expected to bring a major boost to safety infrastructure in Chhattisgarh’s growing urban landscape.
