Governor Adopts Three Villages to Promote Inclusive, Human-Centric Development

TFP Bureau, Raipur, May 29, 2025: In a significant step toward inclusive rural development, Chhattisgarh Governor Shri Ramesh Deka has adopted three villages — Temri in Bemetara district, Madwa Deeh in Gariaband district, and Sonpuri in Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai district. The initiative aims to transform these villages through integrated efforts focused on socio-economic upliftment, environmental sustainability, and cultural preservation, without any additional financial outlay.

Rather than introducing new funding streams, the developmental activities in the adopted villages will leverage existing allocations from various central and state government schemes. These initiatives will be community-driven, with an emphasis on transparency, monitoring, and effective utilization of resources.

The Governor’s adoption plan is rooted in a “human-centric” approach to development. Key focus areas include water conservation, education, health and nutrition, livelihood generation, social security, and sustainable agriculture. Efforts will also be made to conserve local heritage and promote rural tourism.

Key Interventions Planned:

  • Water Conservation: Construction of Amrit Sarovars and water-related infrastructure under MGNREGA and Jal Jeevan Mission.
  • Afforestation: Increasing green cover using CAMPA funds, plantation drives, and job schemes.
  • Education: Initiatives to reduce dropout rates, organize school-parent meetings, revamp libraries, encourage NCC participation, and renovate schools.
  • Health & Nutrition: Focus on TB eradication, Swachhata Abhiyan, and Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS).
  • Livelihood: Promotion of Self-Help Groups, skill development under NRLM, and support for rural entrepreneurship.
  • Social Security: Elderly and disability care, de-addiction centers, and mental health awareness.
  • Sustainable Agriculture: Organic farming, soil health cards, and promotion of traditional farming practices.
  • Culture & Tourism: Preservation of heritage sites and promotion of local tourism through community engagement.

Each of the villages will be monitored with measurable indicators such as improvements in groundwater levels, student retention in schools, and increase in vegetation cover. These villages are intended to serve as models for other rural areas, providing a blueprint for integrated village development under district administration guidance.

The initiative follows a directive issued during the Governors’ Conference in New Delhi in August last year, where all Governors were encouraged to actively review the on-ground implementation of flagship government schemes. Acting on this guidance, Governor Shri Deka has been conducting regular district visits to evaluate and accelerate development outcomes, culminating in his decision to adopt these three villages on the lines of Adarsh Gaon (model village) development.

This pioneering move underscores the state’s commitment to sustainable rural transformation rooted in community participation, resource optimization, and accountable governance.
