Waqf Amendment Act Aims to Empower Muslim Community: CM Vishnu Dev Sai

TFP Bureau, Raipur, May 1,2025: Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai on Wednesday said the newly introduced Waqf Amendment Act, 2025, is designed in the best interests of the Muslim community and will help uplift backward and underprivileged sections by ensuring they are better integrated into the mainstream of development. He was addressing a lecture series on the Act at the Medical College Auditorium, organised by the Waqf Reform Janjagran Abhiyan Samiti.

“This law is not against the Muslim community. It has been drafted after wide consultations with experts and representatives from all sections of society,” said Sai. Emphasizing that the Act would benefit all Muslims, the Chief Minister called it a step toward correcting the anomalies of the previous Waqf legislation.

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh, the keynote speaker at the event, said the Modi government has been carrying out rapid reforms across sectors, citing the abrogation of Article 370 and the abolition of triple talaq as examples. “The new Waqf Bill aims to rectify irregularities within the Waqf Board system and ensure rightful access to resources for backward Muslims,” he said.

Dr. Singh also criticized the amendments made to the Waqf Act in 2013 during the UPA regime, calling them hurried and detrimental. Through a presentation, he outlined the discrepancies introduced at the time and detailed the corrective measures embedded in the 2025 amendment.

Cabinet Minister Ram Vichar Netam urged the public to dispel misconceptions being spread about the new law. “We need to understand the truth about the Waqf Amendment Act. Awareness campaigns and lecture series will be held from the district level to development blocks,” he said.

Prominent attendees at the event included former MLA Shivratan Sharma, Dhamtari Mayor Ramu Rohra, Chhattisgarh Waqf Board Chairman Dr. Salim Raj, and a large number of intellectuals from the Muslim community.
