TFP Bureau, Raipur, May 7, 2025 – In a bid to bolster the country’s civil defense preparedness and ensure swift public response during emergencies, the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, has scheduled a nationwide civil defense mock drill for 7 May 2025. Durg district, including Bhilai, in Chhattisgarh, has been designated as a key location for this large-scale exercise, which will be held in 244 civil defense districts across the nation.
The drill will simulate various emergency scenarios, allowing citizens, students, and volunteers to receive essential training in emergency response and safety protocols. Fire services will also be evaluated, and evacuation plans will be tested to assess their effectiveness. Additionally, the exercise will focus on enhancing coordination between the military and civil security forces.
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai emphasized the importance of adhering to the guidelines issued by the Central Government, ensuring that the drill is carried out seamlessly across the state. He highlighted that this mock drill serves not only as a test of civil defense readiness but also as a powerful means to raise public awareness about emergency preparedness.
Following recent security concerns, such as the terrorist attack in Pahalgam and the ceasefire violation by Pakistan along the border, the country has heightened vigilance. On the Indian Army’s recommendation, a special blackout drill will also take place in Bhilai, where citizens will learn how to navigate in darkness, take protective actions, and remain vigilant in critical situations.
The drill will see active participation from various sectors, including district administration, the civil defense department, home guards, NCC, NSS, NYKS, schools, colleges, voluntary organizations, and local residents. Chief Minister Shri Sai urged officials to prioritize this national security exercise, ensuring its effective and timely execution.
