India’s First Hydrogen Fuel Logistics Truck Flagged Off from Chhattisgarh

TFP Bureau, Raipur, May 10, 2025; Marking a major milestone in India’s push towards sustainable energy, Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai today flagged off the country’s first hydrogen fuel-powered logistics truck from his official residence in Raipur. The initiative, a joint effort by Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company Limited (CSPGCL) and Adani Natural Resources, is aimed at reducing carbon emissions in industrial transport.

In a symbolic gesture, the Chief Minister handed over the truck’s keys—signed by him—to the driver, calling the occasion a “historic initiative” in clean logistics.

“This hydrogen truck represents a revolutionary step in India’s journey towards green energy and aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2070,” Shri Sai said.

The Chief Minister emphasized that Chhattisgarh, being a mineral-rich state, will benefit significantly from clean transportation, particularly in coal logistics. He added that the state is prioritizing green technology alongside traditional development, ensuring that environmental protection and industrial growth progress hand in hand.

Fueling the Future: Clean Energy for Heavy Transport

Hydrogen fuel, which emits only water vapor and hot air, offers a pollution-free alternative to diesel, especially in heavy-load sectors like mining. The truck launched today is capable of transporting up to 40 tonnes over a distance of 200 km and is powered by a hydrogen fuel cell battery and three hydrogen tanks.

The project marks a significant advancement in green transport, especially for sectors dependent on diesel-powered heavy machinery. With minimal noise and zero harmful emissions, the new hydrogen truck is expected to greatly reduce the state’s carbon footprint and dependence on fossil fuels.

Dr. Vinay Prakash, CEO of Natural Resources at Adani Enterprises, called the move a “milestone for sustainable development in mining logistics.” He highlighted that Adani Natural Resources is the first company in Asia to adopt dozer-push semi-autonomous technology, reinforcing both safety and operational efficiency.

The event was also attended by Shri Chandrahas Chandrakar, Chairman of the State Seed Development Corporation, Shri Sanjeev Katiyar, MD of CSPGCL, and representatives of the Adani Group.

The truck will be used to transport coal from the Gare Palma III coal block in Raigarh district to power generation units in the state—ushering in a new era of green industrial logistics in India.
