Dhudmaras Village Shines Bright with Solar Power, Emerges as Bastar’s Premier Eco-Tourism Spot

TFP Bureau, Raipur, July 9, 2025: Dhudmaras, a quaint tribal village nestled within Kanger Valley National Park in Bastar, has gained international recognition as one of the world’s top 20 tourist villages by the United Nations World Tourism Organization. Today, it stands out as a shining example of environmental conservation and sustainable development, thanks to innovative solar energy projects spearheaded by the Chhattisgarh government.

Under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, Dhudmaras is embracing eco-friendly tourism while advancing local infrastructure and self-reliance. The Chhattisgarh Renewable Energy Development Agency (CREDA) has successfully installed solar dual pumps ensuring clean drinking water, solar high mast lights for night-time illumination, and solar-powered street lights across the village. Additionally, primary and secondary schools now enjoy reliable electricity through solar energy systems.

CREDA Chairman Bhupendra Savnani and CEO Rajesh Rana closely supervised these projects, ensuring timely and quality completion. This sustainable energy makeover enhances the village’s appeal to tourists while improving everyday life for residents.

Dhudmaras: A Natural and Cultural Gem

Dhudmaras, along with nearby Chitrakot village, received the prestigious Best Village Award on World Tourism Day from the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. The village’s lush greenery, vibrant Bastariya culture, and scenic Kanger River streams create a picturesque backdrop attracting visitors from near and far.

The state government, under CM Vishnu Dev Sai’s guidance, is further developing trekking trails, camping sites, and homestay options. Efforts are underway to connect traditional artisans to broader markets, boosting local handicrafts. Infrastructure improvements in roads and transportation are also in progress.

Adventure Tourism and Community Empowerment

Adventure enthusiasts can enjoy kayaking and bamboo rafting on the Kanger River, activities organized by the Eco-Tourism Development Committee in Dhudmaras. These initiatives are providing vital livelihood opportunities for local youth, fostering sustainable economic growth.

Basic tourist amenities such as waiting rooms and restrooms are being developed, with coordinated efforts by the Forest and Tourism Department to position Dhudmaras as a flagship eco-tourism destination. Similar projects are underway in nearby villages like Nagalsar and Netanar.

The success story of Dhudmaras highlights how government schemes, when implemented with active community participation, can bring holistic economic, social, and cultural development to rural areas. Today, Dhudmaras stands as an inspiring model for the entire Bastar region and beyond.
