New Rail Line Survey Nears Completion in Naxal-Affected Bastar Region

TFP Bureau, Raipur, June 26, 2025:  Development momentum is picking up in the Bastar region, one of India’s most challenging and Naxal-affected areas, as the Final Location Survey (FLS) of the proposed 160.33 km Kothagudem (Telangana) to Kirandul (Chhattisgarh) rail line enters its final phase. Out of this, 138.51 km will traverse through the Naxal-affected districts of Sukma, Dantewada, and Bijapur, which until now have lacked rail connectivity.

This transformative rail project is expected to simplify transportation and usher in significant socio-economic development across these districts. The survey is being carried out using advanced LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology, ensuring precision and efficiency.

The project holds strategic importance, being closely monitored by the Ministry of Home Affairs due to its dual role in bolstering internal security and regional development. The Indian Railways Department has acknowledged the proactive role of the Chhattisgarh government and Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, whose leadership has accelerated the survey work.

Chief Minister Sai emphasized, “The Kothagudem-Kirandul rail line is not merely a transport project but a symbol of hope, development, and trust for Bastar. This connectivity will unlock new opportunities for social and economic progress in Sukma, Dantewada, and Bijapur, long deprived of railway access.”

The project is poised to become a beacon of security, inclusion, and prosperity, fulfilling a long-cherished dream for the people of Bastar.
