Coal Production from Captive and Commercial Mines Reaches 15.57 MT in June 2025

TFP Bureau, New Delhi, July 2, 2025: Coal production from captive and commercial mines reached 15.57 million tonnes (MT) in June 2025, with dispatches climbing to 17.31 MT, according to data released by the Ministry of Coal. The figures indicate a steady performance trajectory, reinforcing India’s push for energy security and industrial self-reliance.

The first quarter of the financial year 2025–26 recorded a year-on-year growth of 16.39% in production and 13.03% in dispatches, reflecting enhanced operational efficiency and optimized use of mining capacities. A comparative analysis over the past three years shows consistent gains in both production and dispatch by the end of Q1.

Key Developments in June 2025:

  • Utkal A Mine received operational clearance, with a Peak Rated Capacity of 25 MT.
  • Vesting orders were issued for three coal blocks, pushing the total number of allocated blocks past 200.

These milestones are expected to ensure a stable coal supply to core sectors including power, steel, and cement, thereby reinforcing the backbone of India’s industrial infrastructure. The Ministry reiterated its commitment to enhancing domestic coal output, aligned with the vision of building a resilient and self-sustaining economy.
