TFP Bureau, Raipur, July 5, 2025: Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Saturday commended the crucial role of parliamentary journalism in connecting citizens with legislative processes, calling it a cornerstone of a vibrant democracy. He was addressing a day-long workshop on parliamentary reporting held in the Chhattisgarh Assembly auditorium as part of the state’s 25th anniversary celebrations.
“In the past 25 years, the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly has grown into a robust democratic institution. While orientation programmes have helped newly elected legislators understand their responsibilities, it is equally important for journalists to grasp parliamentary procedures to accurately inform the public,” the Chief Minister said.
He noted that a significant number of first-time MLAs are currently serving and stressed the importance of their effective participation in the House. “The commitment of parliamentary reporters ensures that citizens are aware of how their concerns are raised and addressed. Their work reinforces accountability and transparency in governance,” he added.
Assembly Speaker Dr Raman Singh described parliamentary journalism as a “delicate and disciplined responsibility.” Reflecting on the media’s contribution over the past 25 years, Dr Singh said, “Parliamentary reporting demands confidentiality, impartiality, and a deep respect for legislative decorum. Journalists who faithfully uphold these principles are the backbone of democratic awareness.”
Dr Singh also emphasized that accurate and non-partisan reporting of legislative proceedings helps strengthen public trust and democratic institutions. He paid homage to veteran journalists who have contributed to the state’s political coverage, praising their role in maintaining the dignity of the House.
Leader of Opposition Dr Charan Das Mahant likened journalists to sage Narada, calling them alert messengers of democracy. “Through timely and responsible reporting, the media serves as a vital conduit between lawmakers and the people. This workshop offers a meaningful opportunity to enhance knowledge and foster mutual respect between the press and the legislature,” he said.
Also present at the workshop were Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kedar Kashyap, Vidhan Sabha Secretary Dinesh Sharma, former IIMC Director-General Sanjay Dwivedi, and a large gathering of journalists from across the state. The event featured sessions on parliamentary procedures, reporting ethics, and the role of media in shaping democratic discourse.
