Devotees Flock to Bahuda Yatra Festival in Balconagar

TFP Bureau, Korba, July 6, 2025: The Bahuda Yatra, marking the return journey of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra from the Gundicha Temple (Ramlila Maidan) to the Ram Mandir, was celebrated with grandeur and deep devotion in Balconagar. Organized by Utkal Bharati Seva Samiti, the festival witnessed participation from hundreds of devotees, including officials, employees, and families associated with BALCO.

BALCO Chief Operating Officer Mr. Ashutosh Dwivedi led the chariot-pulling ceremony, joined by a sea of devotees who considered the act a sacred opportunity to earn spiritual merit. The vibrant procession passed through key routes of Balconagar, culminating at the Ram Mandir where the deities were ceremonially reinstalled.

A striking highlight of the event was the Karma folk dance performance, presented ahead of the chariot. The rhythmic movements and traditional attire captivated onlookers and added cultural richness to the spiritual event.

The deities had stayed at the Gundicha Temple for nine days, from June 27 to July 5, as per tradition. The Bahuda Yatra marked their ceremonial return, symbolizing the completion of the Rath Yatra festivities. The event continues a 44-year-long tradition of celebrating the Jagannath Rath Yatra in Balconagar with religious zeal and community participation.

Devotees expressed joy and reverence as they offered prayers and witnessed the rituals associated with the sacred return of the deities, reaffirming their spiritual connection to the revered tradition.
