Bastar Olympics 2025 Begins in Remote Kachchapal Village with Grand Enthusiasm

TFP Bureau, Raipur, October 25, 2025: In a vibrant celebration of tribal spirit and traditional sportsmanship, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma inaugurated the Bastar Olympics 2025 in the remote forest village of Kachchapal, Narayanpur district, on Friday. The event, organized by the Government of Chhattisgarh, marks the beginning of a month-long sporting festival aimed at promoting indigenous games, identifying grassroots talent, and bringing the youth of the Naxal-affected Bastar region into the mainstream of development and national integration.

The inaugural ceremony was marked by an atmosphere of festivity and unity. Villagers from far and wide gathered in large numbers to witness the event, where the Deputy Chief Minister formally declared the Bastar Olympics 2025 open. The ceremony began with traditional tribal dances, folk music, and rituals symbolizing Bastar’s cultural richness and harmony.

To kick off the games, a tug-of-war competition was held between the rural women’s teams of Irkabhatti and Kachchapal, with the spirited women of Irkabhatti emerging victorious. Their victory was met with loud cheers and applause from the audience. Mr. Sharma personally congratulated the participants and praised their energy and enthusiasm. He also distributed Bastar Olympics 2025 T-shirts to the players, symbolizing the spirit of unity and participation.

Deputy Chief Minister Sharma, while addressing the gathering, said that the Bastar Olympics is not just a sporting event but a grand festival of brotherhood and social harmony.
“The Bastar Olympics is a symbol of unity, trust, and the unbreakable spirit of the people of Bastar. It provides a platform for the youth to display their natural talent, build confidence, and rise as ambassadors of hope and determination. Through these games, we aim to identify players who can represent Bastar—and Chhattisgarh—at the national and international levels,” he said.

He lauded the collective efforts of the district administration, local representatives, and villagers for transforming even the most remote forest regions into arenas of sports and celebration. Mr. Sharma emphasized that such initiatives reflect the government’s deep commitment to inclusive development, peacebuilding, and youth empowerment in areas once affected by extremism.

The Bastar Olympics 2025 will witness massive participation, with more than 3,80,000 players from all seven districts of the Bastar division competing in a wide range of sporting disciplines. Narayanpur alone has contributed over 47,000 participants, reflecting the enthusiasm and engagement of the local population.

The competition will be conducted in three phases—block, district, and divisional levels—culminating in grand finals at Jagdalpur in November. Events will include both traditional and modern sports such as athletics, archery, badminton, football, karate, kabaddi, kho-kho, volleyball, tug-of-war, hockey, and weightlifting.

Special attention has been given to ensuring inclusive participation, with separate categories for junior players (14–17 years), senior players (above 17 years), athletes with disabilities, and even surrendered Naxalites, who will compete directly in the divisional-level tournaments. The inclusion of rehabilitated individuals marks a significant step towards their reintegration into society through the medium of sports.

The inaugural ceremony witnessed the presence of several senior officials and dignitaries, including District Panchayat President Narayan Markam, Vice President Pratap Singh Mandavi, ADG Vivekananda Sinha, Commissioner Doman Singh, IG Sundarraj P, Collector Pratishtha Mamgai, SP Robinson Gudiya, SDM Orcha Dr. Sumit Garg, Janpad Vice President Orcha Mangduram Nureti, and Sarpanch of Kachchapal Rajma Nureti, along with Janpad members and a large gathering of villagers.

The presence of such a wide array of officials underscored the government’s commitment to transforming Bastar through development, peace, and cultural pride. The officials interacted with players, inspected the arrangements, and praised the villagers for their active participation in the initiative.

The Bastar Olympics, which will run from October 25 to November 30, is more than a sporting event—it is a cultural revival that celebrates the tribal heritage of Bastar while nurturing the next generation of athletes. Local games such as tug-of-war and kho-kho stand side by side with modern sports like badminton and karate, creating a unique blend of tradition and modernity.

For the youth of Bastar, the Olympics offers an opportunity to showcase their abilities, earn recognition, and dream bigger. For many villagers, it is also a festival of hope—a symbol that Bastar is moving beyond the shadow of conflict towards a brighter, more inclusive future.

As the evening ended in Kachchapal, the sound of cheering crowds, beating drums, and folk songs echoed across the forested valleys—a fitting start to an event that promises to unite the heart of Bastar through sports, culture, and the shared spirit of peace.
