Chirayu Yojana Emerges as a Lifesaver for Pahadi Korwa Children in Chhattisgarh

TFP Bureau, Raipur, July 21, 2025: The Chirayu Yojana, launched to provide free healthcare to children, is proving to be a life-changing initiative for tribal communities in Chhattisgarh—especially the vulnerable Pahadi Korwa tribe residing in remote forest regions of Jashpur district. The scheme, which ensures access to treatment in leading private hospitals across the country, is becoming a crucial support system for underprivileged families unable to afford expensive medical care.

In Sonkaryari village of Manora block, Anjali Bai, a young girl from a Pahadi Korwa family, was diagnosed with a critical heart condition—a hole in the heart. Her father, Nanhu Ram, who survives on daily wages, was devastated. Thanks to Chirayu Yojana, Anjali was taken to a reputed private hospital in Raipur, where she underwent a successful operation and has now fully recovered.

Similar stories of recovery and hope have emerged across Jashpur. Ritesh, son of labourer Sudarshan Chauhan from Puranitoli, was also diagnosed with a heart defect. Referred through Chirayu Yojana, he received successful treatment in Raipur and is now healthy. Anshika, from Behratoli in Kunkuri block, was treated at Apollo Hospital in Chennai for a serious heart ailment at a cost of ₹14.5 lakh—all covered under the scheme.

Children like 2-year-old Anvi Bai, 9-year-old Anant Nayak, and Kumar Nayak—who were suffering from congenital heart conditions—also received advanced treatment at Apollo Children’s Hospital, Chennai. Others like Novel Bhagat from Chirabagicha and Garvit Singh from BTI Para were successfully treated for cleft lip and palate deformities in private hospitals in Raipur, again free of cost under the Chirayu Yojana.

As part of the initiative, health screenings are conducted regularly at Anganwadi centres and schools across the state. Children found with any of 44 identified diseases or congenital conditions are provided with complete medical care, including treatment in top hospitals anywhere in India if needed.

The Chirayu Yojana is thus not only curing diseases but also restoring hope in the hearts of hundreds of tribal and poor families across Chhattisgarh.
