India-UK Free Trade Pact Opens Global Avenues for Chhattisgarh’s Farmers and Artisans

TFP Bureau, Raipur, July 27, 2025: Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has welcomed the recently signed India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA), calling it a “new chapter in India’s growth story” and a major breakthrough for states like Chhattisgarh. The Chief Minister extended his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, crediting his visionary leadership for steering India toward greater global economic integration.

“The FTA will not only boost India’s exports but also provide a historic opportunity for Chhattisgarh’s farmers, artisans, and MSMEs to connect with international markets,” CM Sai said.

He emphasized that with 99% of Indian exports to the UK now set to receive duty-free access, Chhattisgarh’s traditional sectors—rooted in agriculture, handicrafts, and cottage industries—stand to gain immensely.

According to CM Sai, the agreement could unlock trade opportunities worth an estimated $23 billion, directly benefiting grassroots producers and opening pathways for youth employment and enterprise growth in the state.

He further stated that the Chhattisgarh government is working proactively to prepare local producers for this opportunity by providing global-standard training, enhancing quality control mechanisms, and establishing export facilitation centres.

Terming the FTA a “historic step,” CM Sai said it would empower agrarian states, strengthen small industries, and accelerate job creation. “This agreement gives a global dimension to the ‘Vocal for Local’ vision and reflects the strength of India’s economic diplomacy,” he added.

The India-UK FTA is being seen as a strategic milestone in India’s trade policy, opening new gateways for regional economies like Chhattisgarh to thrive in global markets.
