Major administrative reshuffle follows implementation of Police Commissionerate system in Raipur; Home Department cites public interest and administrative efficiency

TFP Bureau, Raipur, January 22, 2026: In a significant administrative move following the implementation of the Police Commissionerate system in Raipur, the Chhattisgarh Government on Thursday appointed senior IPS officer Shri Sanjay Shukla as the first Commissioner of Police for the State capital. Currently serving as Inspector General of Police, Bilaspur Range, Sanjay Shukla has been entrusted with the responsibility of heading the newly constituted Raipur Police Commissionerate.

Along with this key appointment, the Home (Police) Department issued transfer and posting orders for a total of 15 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers, as part of a broader reshuffle aimed at strengthening policing and administrative efficiency across the State.

Administrative Reshuffle Issued by Home Department
According to the official order issued by the Home Department, these postings have been made for administrative convenience and in public interest. Several IPS officers posted in different districts and police units across Chhattisgarh have been temporarily assigned new responsibilities until further orders.

The reshuffle also includes transfer and posting orders for officers of various ranks, including Additional Superintendents of Police, Inspectors, Sub-Inspectors and Assistant Sub-Inspectors, particularly in Raipur Range and other key districts. The changes are expected to help streamline command structures and improve coordination following the transition to the Commissionerate system in Raipur.

Sanjay Shukla to Lead Raipur Police Commissionerate
With Raipur becoming the first city in Chhattisgarh to adopt the Police Commissionerate system, the appointment of Sanjay Shukla as its first Police Commissioner is seen as a crucial step. As Commissioner of Police, he will exercise enhanced powers, including magisterial authority, to deal more effectively with law and order, crime prevention, traffic management and public safety in the rapidly growing urban region.

Immediate Effect, Officers Directed to Assume Charge
The Home Department has clarified that all the transfer and posting orders will come into effect immediately. The concerned officers have been directed to promptly assume charge at their new places of posting to ensure there is no disruption in administrative and policing work.

Copies of the transfer orders have been forwarded to the Police Headquarters, Inspector Generals of concerned ranges, District Superintendents of Police and other relevant offices for information and necessary compliance. See the order here👇
