TFP Bureau, New Delhi, November 1, 2025:
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially released the date sheet for the Class X and XII Board Examinations 2026. The exams are scheduled to commence on February 17, 2026, as earlier announced. This year marks a significant milestone as CBSE has issued the final date sheet 110 days ahead of the examination schedule — the earliest ever in its history — to facilitate better academic planning for students, teachers, and schools.
In accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, CBSE will conduct two board examinations for Class X students in 2026. The board had earlier issued a tentative date sheet on September 24, 2025, based on registration data from Class IX and XI students, providing stakeholders with a 146-day preparatory window. With the final list of candidates (LOC) now received from all schools, the CBSE has prepared and released the confirmed date sheet for both classes.
While preparing the schedule, the Board ensured that sufficient gaps were provided between subjects commonly opted by students to reduce academic stress. It also considered the schedule of major entrance examinations, such as those for engineering and medical admissions, ensuring that Class XII board exams conclude well before such entrance tests. This move aims to help students manage their time effectively between board and entrance exam preparations.
CBSE stated that special attention was given to avoid overlapping of subjects across more than 40,000 possible combinations. The timing for all examinations has been fixed at 10:30 AM (IST). Additionally, the Board has designed the schedule in such a way that teachers from all subjects will not remain engaged in evaluation duties simultaneously, ensuring smooth functioning of regular classes during the evaluation period.
Dr. Sanyam Bhardwaj, Controller of Examinations, noted that this early release of the date sheet was made possible due to the timely submission of data by schools. He emphasized that the advance schedule will provide multiple benefits to all stakeholders. “The early declaration of the exam dates will help students prepare in a structured manner, reduce exam-related anxiety, and allow teachers and families to plan their academic and vacation schedules effectively,” the statement read.
The Board highlighted several advantages of this early release: students will have ample time to prepare for their examinations; schools can organize academic and administrative activities more efficiently; and examination centres will have sufficient time to make logistical arrangements. The early planning will also ensure that the evaluation process is completed in time without affecting regular teaching schedules for non-board classes.
In a key announcement, CBSE has coordinated with the National Testing Agency (NTA) to ensure that the JEE (Main) examination dates do not overlap with the CBSE board exams. For this purpose, schools have been instructed to provide the registration numbers of Class XI students applying for JEE (Main) so that NTA can synchronize schedules effectively.
The CBSE has advised schools, students, and parents to download the official date sheets for Class X and XII from its website at www.cbse.gov.in.
The early release of the 2026 board examination schedule marks a new step in CBSE’s continued efforts to bring greater efficiency, transparency, and student-friendliness to the examination process — aligning with the vision of the National Education Policy 2020 and the broader goals of the Ministry of Education.
