Assembly General Election-2023: Over 5.51 Lakh Incidents of Defacement of Property Act Violations Recorded Across State
TFP Bureau, Raipur; Oct 17, 2023: As the Model Code of Conduct took effect for the Assembly General Elections-2023 in the state, a sweeping campaign to enforce the Defacement of Property Act has resulted in the removal of more than 5.51 lakh banners, posters, wall writings, and other promotional materials from public and private properties up to October 15.
The Chief Electoral Officer of the state, Mrs. Reena Babasaheb Kangale, reported that a staggering total of 5,51,699 cases of Defacement of Property Act violations have been identified by collectors and district election officers. Of these cases, 3,61,378 were related to public properties, while 1,90,321 pertained to private properties.
Under the provisions of the Act, the state has seen the removal of 2,33,074 wall writings, 1,58,810 posters, 70,405 banners, and 90,669 other promotional materials across various regions.Since the inception of the Model Code of Conduct, various districts have been diligent in enforcing the Defacement of Property Act.
Notable actions include the removal of 25,232 cases in Durg district, 5,151 in Sukma, 7,453 in Gariaband, 14,832 in Bemetara, 3,382 in Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai, 27,356 in Balod, 8,305 in Jashpur, 846 in Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur, 20,592 in Surguja, 20,628 in Balodabazar-Bhatapara, and 24,953 in Raigarh. Significant efforts were also observed in Surajpur and Kanker, with 12,129 and 15,918 incidents addressed, respectively.
Moreover, in Bilaspur district, 67,501 cases were addressed, along with 1,420 in Dantewada, 7,666 in Mahasamund, 18,204 in Janjgir-Champa, 1,332 in Bastar, 67,120 in Korba, 14,584 in Kondagaon, 12,170 in Kabirdham, 2,632 in Bijapur, 6,065 in Sarangarh-Bilaigarh, 6,412 in Rajnandgaon, 9,768 in Balrampur-Ramanujganj, 2,777 in Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi, 6,184 in Korea, 1,008 in Narayanpur, 12,737 in Mungeli, 9,526 in Sakti, and 18 in Dhamtari.
This relentless effort to remove promotional materials from a total of 5,51,699 properties across the state reflects the dedication to maintain a fair and transparent election process.
