TFP Bureau, New Delhi, November 7,2025: The Pharmacology Laboratory of the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), New Delhi, has achieved a rare distinction by securing three internationally recognised ISO certifications from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), marking a major milestone in the advancement of quality and safety frameworks in Ayurvedic research.
The laboratory has been accredited with IS/ISO 9001:2015 for Quality Management Systems, IS/ISO 14001:2015 for Environmental Management Systems, and IS/ISO 45001:2018 for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems. The certifications were formally conferred during a BIS-organised Quality Management System event attended by officials of the Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH).
This triple certification establishes AIIA as one of the country’s leading institutions implementing globally benchmarked standards in laboratory management, environmental responsibility, and workplace safety — reinforcing India’s growing leadership in evidence-based Ayurvedic research.
According to AIIA, the implementation of an Integrated Management System (IMS) has helped streamline laboratory processes, ensure adherence to ethical research practices, and strengthen compliance with international norms in pre-clinical pharmacological studies.
The accredited systems will introduce several key improvements — including standardized experimental protocols, environmentally conscious operations such as waste reduction and energy conservation, and improved occupational safety through risk mitigation, ergonomic design, and rigorous safety audits.
BIS officials noted that the two-stage audit process offered crucial insights into contextualizing ISO protocols specifically for pharmacological laboratories and small-animal research facilities, helping AIIA strengthen its scientific infrastructure while maintaining strict environmental and safety standards.
Prof. (Vaidya) P. K. Prajapati, Director of AIIA, hailed the achievement as a significant milestone in the institute’s mission to merge classical Ayurvedic wisdom with modern scientific rigor. “This ISO certification reflects our continuous pursuit of excellence in education, research, and institutional governance. Integrating globally recognized standards with traditional research practices sets a new benchmark for Ayurvedic institutions nationwide,” he said.
Mrs. Lalthan Pari, Scientist E at BIS, emphasised the importance of prioritising Quality Management Systems across organisations to elevate operational standards. CCRH Director General Dr. Subhash Kaushik highlighted “quality, commitment, and continuous improvisation” as the foundational pillars of institutional progress. Former BIS Scientist-F Dr. R.K. Kain also attended the event.
AIIA — accredited with NAAC A++ and recognised as India’s first NABH-accredited public sector Ayurveda hospital — operates a 200-bed facility with 12 specialty departments and 45 clinics. Its research-driven approach integrates traditional Ayurvedic principles with modern methodologies, positioning it among the country’s premier institutions for evidence-based healthcare.
The latest ISO recognition for its Pharmacology Laboratory further strengthens AIIA’s vision to create global standards for Ayurvedic research, fostering ethical practices, innovation, and sustainable development in India’s traditional medicine ecosystem.
AIIA was represented at the event by Additional Professor Dr. Galib, Dr. Bidhan, and Dr. Vijay Kumar.
