Chhattisgarh Speeds Up Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls

TFP Bureau, Raipur, November 25, 2025: The Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls (SIR-2026), being conducted across Chhattisgarh as per the directives of the Election Commission of India (ECI), has gained significant momentum, with substantial progress reported in voter enumeration, form collection, and digitization. Alongside the revision, a state-level incentive initiative has been launched to acknowledge the outstanding performance of Booth Level Officers (BLOs), who play a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy and inclusiveness of the electoral rolls.

Awards for Top-Performing BLOs

In line with the ECI’s standards, the first three BLOs in every Assembly constituency who complete 100% distribution, collection, and digitization of counting forms by November 28, 2025, will be rewarded for their efficiency and commitment. Officials from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) stated that this initiative aims to encourage timely and high-quality fieldwork ahead of the final publication of the rolls for the eligibility date of January 1, 2026.

The awards will be presented during district-level celebrations on National Voters’ Day on January 25, 2026. A total of 270 BLOs—three from each of the state’s 90 Assembly constituencies—will receive a citation and a monetary incentive of ₹5,000 as recognition of their exemplary performance.

The selection process will be carried out by the respective Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), who will recommend names based strictly on completion of the mandated tasks. Only BLOs recommended by the ERO will be eligible for the award. CEO Shri Yashwant Kumar has issued instructions to all Collectors and District Election Officers to ensure proper monitoring, selection, documentation, and preparation for the award ceremonies.

Special Intensive Revision Campaign Sees Rapid Progress

Parallel to the award initiative, the SIR campaign has witnessed strong progress since its launch on November 4, 2025, with BLOs conducting door-to-door visits to verify voter details and collect enumeration forms. The revision campaign, officials emphasized, is being carried out with seriousness, transparency, and adherence to ECI norms to ensure that all eligible citizens are included and inaccuracies are removed in time for the 2026 electoral roll.

As of November 25, digitization of more than 1 crore 29 lakh counting forms has been completed, representing nearly 61% of the total 2 crore 12 lakh 30 thousand 737 registered voters in the state. The remaining digitization work is continuing on a war footing to meet the prescribed deadlines.

Ensuring Accuracy and Inclusion

Officials noted that the SIR-2026 process is crucial for maintaining up-to-date and reliable electoral rolls. The campaign includes verification of new voters, removal of duplicate or shifted entries, correction of voter details, and identification of eligible young voters who will turn 18 by the cut-off date. Special focus is also being placed on remote, tribal, and urban slum areas to ensure no eligible voter is left out.

The CEO’s office has directed district teams to strengthen field supervision, ensure timely uploading of digitized data, and maintain proper coordination between BLOs, supervisors, and EROs. Daily progress monitoring dashboards are being used to track completion rates and resolve bottlenecks swiftly.

Commitment to Strengthening Democracy

With the award scheme boosting field-level motivation and the SIR-2026 campaign progressing steadily, the Chhattisgarh election machinery aims to complete a high-quality revision of electoral rolls well ahead of schedule. Officials stated that the combined effort reflects the state’s commitment to strengthening democratic participation by ensuring accurate, inclusive, and transparent voter lists across all districts.

The upcoming National Voters’ Day celebrations are expected to highlight the contributions of BLOs and reinforce the importance of electoral participation among citizens.
