Grand International Women’s Day ceremony in Patadi highlights growing leadership of women in health, self-help groups and rural development
TFP Bureau, Korba, February 22,2026: Reaffirming its commitment to women’s empowerment and community development, the Adani Foundation on Saturday organised a large-scale felicitation ceremony in Patadi village of Barpali tehsil to mark International Women’s Day. Around 600 women from 14 nearby gram panchayats were honoured for their outstanding contribution to social service and grassroots development.
The programme was held near Korba Power Limited and witnessed the participation of nearly 100 Mitanins and 500 women from self-help groups, representing villages including Patadi, Pahanda, Khoddal, Sargbundiya, Kudurmal, Dhandhani, Katbitla and Devarmal. The initiative aimed at recognising the vital role played by women in healthcare, livelihood generation, sanitation, awareness campaigns and overall rural progress.
The ceremony began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and was attended by a wide cross-section of public representatives, health officials and community leaders. Prominent among those present on the dais were Sushmita Anant, Reena Sidar and Vandana Gupta. Several women sarpanches, including Sangeeta Kunwar, Nikita Singh, Rinki Kanwar, Lalita Jagat and Achala Kanwar, were also present, reflecting the increasing participation of women in local governance.
Addressing the gathering, District Panchayat Member Sushmita Anant said that women today are serving the nation in every field and at the highest levels. “The fact that India has a woman President symbolises the strength and capability of women. Their contribution to social and national development is a matter of pride for the entire country,” she said, calling for continued support to women-led initiatives at the grassroots.
Janpad Member Reena Sidar noted that such felicitation programmes play a crucial role in motivating women and boosting their self-confidence. “From running households to operating trains and aircraft, women are proving their abilities in every sphere of life. The Adani Group’s efforts are helping women move forward with confidence and dignity,” she said.
District Mitanin Coordinator Vandana Gupta highlighted the pivotal role played by Mitanins during challenging periods such as the COVID-19 pandemic. She said Mitanins have been instrumental in ensuring healthcare delivery in rural areas, particularly in maternal and child health services. “Women are today driving progress in every sector and are key to building a healthy and resilient society,” she added.
Speaking on behalf of the industry, Vikas Thakur of Korba Power Limited said the participation of such a large number of women reflects a positive transformation in society. He observed that women’s active involvement in social initiatives would further strengthen regional development and foster stronger cooperation between industry and communities.
Health officials, including zonal health officers, former village representatives, officials of the Adani Foundation and Korba Power Limited, along with local dignitaries, were present at the event. At the conclusion of the programme, the chief guests were honoured with mementos and saplings, symbolising sustainable development. The successful organisation of the event was supported by community volunteers and foundation team members.
Organisers said the initiative is part of Adani Foundation’s broader “community-first” approach, under which sustained efforts are being made for the holistic and sustainable development of the Korba region. Special focus areas include women’s empowerment through education, healthcare access, livelihood support and infrastructure development, with such programmes set to continue in the coming years.
