Fifteen Maoists surrender with ₹73-lakh bounty; government credits security operations, rehabilitation policy and development push
TFP Bureau, Raipur, March 1, 2026: Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Sunday said the vision of a Naxal-free Bastar is steadily turning into reality, attributing the progress to intensified security action, rehabilitation measures and accelerated development initiatives in affected regions.
The Chief Minister’s statement came after 15 armed Maoists active in border areas of Mahasamund district surrendered before authorities, choosing to return to the mainstream. Officials said the group included nine women and six men, who collectively carried a bounty of ₹73 lakh. They also surrendered their weapons, signalling what the state government described as growing trust among former insurgents in governance, security and development policies.
Shri Sai said the surrender demonstrates that “misguided youth” are increasingly abandoning violence and embracing democratic processes and peaceful livelihoods. He emphasised that the state’s rehabilitation policy is designed to provide such individuals with opportunities for reintegration through skill development, employment support and social inclusion.
The Chief Minister credited the progress to coordinated efforts between the state government and the Centre under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He said joint initiatives are focusing on strengthening security infrastructure while simultaneously expanding education, healthcare, roads and livelihood opportunities in previously affected areas.
According to the state government, these parallel strategies aim not only to curb extremist activities but also to address underlying socio-economic challenges that have historically contributed to unrest. Officials noted that increased development works in remote regions have improved connectivity, access to public services and confidence among local communities.
Reiterating the administration’s commitment, the Chief Minister said the goal is to build a secure and developed Chhattisgarh where citizens can live without fear and pursue opportunities with dignity. He welcomed the surrendered individuals back into society and expressed hope that they would lead peaceful and productive lives.
Authorities believe such surrenders could encourage others still involved in extremist activities to lay down arms and join the mainstream, further strengthening the state’s campaign to eliminate Naxalism and promote long-term stability in the Bastar region.
