BALCO Inaugurates Safety Park, Launches Major Safety Awareness Drive

More than 5,000 employees, partners, community members and students participate in Safety Month activities as the company strengthens its safety-first culture through interactive learning and engagement.

TFP Bureau, Balconagar, April 13,2026: Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), a leading aluminium producer and a unit of Vedanta Aluminium, has inaugurated a Safety Park at its operations in Balconagar, marking a significant step toward strengthening workplace safety awareness and promoting a culture of safe practices across its workforce and surrounding communities.

The newly established Safety Park has been designed as an interactive learning space featuring models, experiential modules and visual installations that demonstrate the company’s standard operating procedures (SOPs). These installations enable employees, contractors and visitors to gain practical and hands-on understanding of operational safety protocols and risk-prevention measures used across the organisation’s industrial processes.

The initiative was launched as part of Safety Month celebrations under the theme “Engage, Educate & Empower People to Enhance Safety.” Through a series of awareness programmes and activities, the campaign reached and engaged more than 5,000 stakeholders including employees, business partners, community members and students from nearby educational institutions.

A notable feature of the campaign was the active leadership of women employees, who played a key role in organising and leading several activities during the programme. The participation highlighted BALCO’s emphasis on inclusive leadership and its commitment to empowering women as important contributors to operational excellence and safety culture.

To strengthen awareness and encourage behavioural change, the company organised a range of interactive activities designed to reinforce safety consciousness among employees and partners. These included drawing and slogan competitions, safety quizzes and a special contest titled ‘Kaun Banega Safety Champion,’ where participants tested their knowledge of workplace safety protocols and emergency response measures.

Gamified learning activities such as Snake & Ladder and Hazard Hunt were also introduced, allowing participants to learn about safety practices through engaging and practical formats. The programmes aimed to make safety awareness both accessible and memorable for employees across departments.

The campaign also recognised individuals and teams who demonstrated exceptional commitment to safety standards. Awards such as Best Safety Performers and the initiative ‘Family Connect with Safety Champions’ celebrated employees and operational teams who consistently adhered to and promoted safe practices in their respective work areas.

Speaking on the occasion, Rajesh Kumar, CEO and Director of Bharat Aluminium Company Limited, said safety remains a fundamental value guiding every aspect of the company’s operations. He emphasised that sustained engagement, continuous training and awareness programmes are essential to building a workplace environment where every individual takes ownership of safety.

He added that initiatives such as Safety Month help reinforce behavioural change across the workforce while strengthening the company’s commitment to ensuring a safe working environment for employees as well as communities surrounding its operations.

The campaign also introduced platforms such as ‘Voice of Safety’ and ‘Real-Life Hero Stories,’ where employees and business partners shared their experiences, suggestions and learnings related to safety practices. These initiatives encouraged open dialogue and helped embed a sense of shared responsibility for workplace safety.

Further engagement activities included the Best Safety Zone Exhibition, where different sub-business units showcased safety innovations and best practices adopted within their operations. Health check-up camps were also organised as part of the programme, highlighting the company’s focus on employee wellbeing alongside workplace safety.

Beyond its industrial premises, BALCO has continued to extend safety awareness initiatives to local communities and families residing in nearby areas. The company regularly conducts fire safety workshops, road safety awareness programmes and training sessions aimed at educating residents about preventive safety measures. Retro-reflective safety signboards have also been installed in surrounding areas to improve road visibility and reduce the risk of accidents.

Recognising its consistent efforts in promoting safety at the workplace and in the community, Bharat Aluminium Company Limited has received the International Safety Award 2026 from the British Safety Council. The company has also been honoured with the Platinum Award for Excellence in Fire & Safety by Grow Care India.

Officials said these recognitions reflect BALCO’s continued commitment to maintaining high safety standards while fostering a culture of responsibility, awareness and excellence across its workforce and the wider ecosystem in which it operates.
