Amit Shah Launches Next-Generation Dial-112 Service, Mobile Forensic Vans in Chhattisgarh

400 emergency response vehicles and 32 mobile forensic vans flagged off to strengthen real-time assistance and scientific investigation across all 33 districts

TFP Bureau, Raipur, May 18,2026: Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Monday launched the next-generation CG Dial-112 emergency response service and flagged off a fleet of modern mobile forensic vans in Chhattisgarh, marking a major step towards technology-driven policing and faster justice delivery.

The launch ceremony was held at the Mana Police Parade Ground in Raipur in the presence of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker Raman Singh, Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Vijay Sharma, and Director General of Police Arun Dev Gautam, along with legislators and senior police officials.

During the programme, the Union Home Minister flagged off 400 advanced Dial-112 emergency response vehicles and 32 mobile forensic vans for deployment across the state. In addition, 33 specialised surveillance vehicles and 60 highway patrol vehicles were also introduced to strengthen monitoring and field-level response systems.

Integrated emergency response system

Launched under the theme “Ekke Number, Sabbo Bar”, the upgraded Dial-112 service integrates police, fire and medical emergency services under a single digital platform, enabling faster and more coordinated response during emergencies.

The Dial-112 service, operational in the state since 2018, has now been expanded from 16 districts to all 33 districts of Chhattisgarh with enhanced technological capabilities.

The new system features Artificial Intelligence-based location identification, enabling authorities to detect the exact geographical location of callers in distress. It operates round the clock through GIS-based monitoring systems, advanced vehicle tracking technology, SIP trunk communication and automatic caller location identification.

All 33 district coordination centres have been connected to the integrated network to ensure seamless communication and rapid response.

To ensure uninterrupted operations, the state has also established a secondary backup control centre at Police Headquarters in Nava Raipur, in addition to the primary control centre at Civil Lines in Raipur. The backup facility will automatically take over operations during technical disruptions or emergencies.

The 400 emergency response vehicles are equipped with advanced technology including smartphones, GPS tracking systems, wireless communication sets, PTZ cameras, dash cameras, mobile NVR systems and solar power backup facilities. These features will enable live monitoring, real-time vehicle tracking and faster field communicationduring emergency operations.

Citizens will be able to access emergency services not only through voice calls but also via SMS, email, web portal, WhatsApp, AI-enabled communication systems, chatbot services and the SOS-enabled 112 India mobile application.

The upgraded platform also integrates women’s safety features, including panic buttons and enhanced surveillance support, bringing police assistance, ambulance services, fire response and women’s helpline services under a unified emergency framework.

Mobile forensic vans to boost scientific investigation

In another major initiative, the Union Home Minister launched 32 mobile forensic vans under the theme “Science on Wheels – Towards Faster Justice.”

The initiative has been designed with the goal of “32 vans, 32 districts, one commitment – accurate investigation and faster justice.” These mobile forensic laboratories will enable preliminary forensic analysis directly at crime scenes.

Each forensic van, developed at an estimated cost of around ₹65 lakh, functions as a fully equipped mobile forensic laboratory. The vans contain crime scene preservation kits, evidence collection and sealing tools, fingerprint detection systems, narcotics testing kits, blood sample testing equipment, digital forensic support systems and devices for extracting CCTV footage.

They are also equipped with bullet-hole screening and ballistic examination kits, gunshot residue (GSR) testing systems, high-resolution photography equipment, specialised night-vision cameras, GPS systems, high-capacity computers and uninterrupted power backup generators.

Until now, evidence collected from crime scenes had to be transported to laboratories, often leading to delays and potential contamination. With the deployment of mobile forensic vans, forensic experts will be able to conduct preliminary examination, biological and digital sample analysis, evidence preservation and digital documentation directly at the crime scene.

Strengthening justice delivery

The initiative also aligns with provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, which mandates the presence of forensic teams and scientific evidence collection at the scene of serious offences punishable with seven years or more imprisonment.

Officials said the integration of next-generation Dial-112 services and mobile forensic laboratories will significantly enhance emergency response capabilities, scientific investigation standards and transparency in policing.

The move is expected to strengthen evidence-based criminal investigation, ensure time-bound justice delivery and boost public confidence in the law enforcement system across Chhattisgarh.
