Forbes’ Billionaires List Sees Surge in Indian Entries; Ambani Tops as Richest Asian

TFP Bureau, Mumbai, April 3, 2024: In a historic milestone, Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries, has become the first Asian billionaire to enter the coveted $100 billion club, according to the latest Forbes Billionaires List. With a staggering increase in his wealth from $83 billion to $116 billion, Ambani now stands as the ninth richest individual globally and the richest in Asia.

Forbes’ unveiling of its billionaires list for 2024 witnessed a surge in Indian entries, with a total of 200 Indians making the prestigious roster, amassing a combined wealth of $954 billion. Among the notable additions are 25 new Indian billionaires, including prominent figures such as Naresh Trehan, Ramesh Kunhikannan, and Renuka Jagtiani. However, notable exclusions from the list this year include Byju Khindran and Rohika Mistry.

Gautam Adani, the chairman of the Adani Group, emerged as India’s second richest individual, securing the 17th spot on the Forbes list with a net worth of $84 billion. Meanwhile, Savitri Jindal, chairperson of the Jindal Group, clinched the title of India’s richest woman, ranking fourth in the national wealth rankings with a net worth of $33.5 billion.

The top 10 richest individuals in India, as per the Forbes list, are as follows:

3. Shiv Nadar – $36.9 billion
4. Savitri Jindal – $33.5 billion
5. Dilip Shanghvi – $26.7 billion
6. Cyrus Poonawalla – $21.3 billion
7. Kushal Pal Singh – $20.9 billion
8. Kumar Mangalam Birla – $19.7 billion
9. Radhakishan Damani – $17.6 billion
10. Lakshmi Mittal – $16.4 billion
