Chhattisgarh government begins rehabilitation in fully equipped EWS housing; eight-member panel formed to ensure transparent resettlement
TFP Bureau, Raipur, July 1,2026: The Chhattisgarh government has initiated the permanent rehabilitation of 65 families affected by the recent encroachment removal drive in Nakti village by allotting them Economically Weaker Section (EWS) housing units in Sector-30 of Naya Raipur Atal Nagar.
Officials said the initiative aims to ensure that families displaced during the clearance of government land are provided with dignified and permanent housing instead of being left homeless. The beneficiaries will be relocated to a residential complex equipped with essential civic amenities, including electricity, drinking water, roads, sewerage facilities, parks, community centres and shopping spaces.
According to the Housing and Infrastructure Development Board, around 12 acres of the 38-acre government land at Nakti has been earmarked for a special development project, while the remaining 26 acres will be developed under the Board’s self-financed housing scheme.
The district administration has identified 65 eligible families residing on the encroached land and submitted the list to the Housing and Infrastructure Development Board. On June 29, temporary allotment orders were issued to these families for vacant EWS flats constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana in Sector-30.
Officials said preparations have been expedited to make the houses ready for immediate occupation. Electrical fittings, including tube lights, ceiling fans and other necessary installations, have already been completed to ensure that the beneficiaries can move in without delay.
To oversee the rehabilitation process, the government has constituted an eight-member committee headed by the Additional Commissioner (Headquarters). The panel includes an Additional Collector, Executive Engineer, Estate Officer and Assistant Engineers, and has been tasked with ensuring transparent allotment of houses and smooth implementation of the rehabilitation programme.
The Sector-30 housing complex comprises 1,376 G+3 EWS flats, of which 109 vacant units located on the fourth floor have been earmarked for rehabilitation. Each flat has a built-up area of 31.45 square metres (338.40 sq ft) and is part of a township equipped with paved roads, walking tracks, landscaped parks, a community centre, a utility shopping complex, a sewerage network and regular water supply.
The Housing and Infrastructure Development Board said the government’s objective extends beyond removing encroachments from public land and focuses equally on ensuring the dignified rehabilitation of affected families through planned resettlement and the provision of adequate urban infrastructure.
