TFP Bureau, New Delhi, May 11, 2024: The Department of Telecommunications (DoT), in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and State Police, has embarked on a concerted effort to tackle cybercrime and financial frauds by cracking down on the misuse of telecom resources. This coordinated initiative aims to disrupt the operations of fraud networks and enhance digital security for citizens.
Recent analysis conducted by the MHA and State Police has identified 28,200 mobile handsets implicated in cybercrimes. Further investigation by the DoT revealed that a staggering 20 lakh mobile connections were associated with these devices. Consequently, the DoT issued directives to telecom service providers nationwide, instructing them to block the 28,200 identified mobile handsets and to initiate immediate reverification of the 20 lakh mobile connections linked to these devices. Failure to pass re-verification will result in disconnection of these connections.
This collaborative effort underscores a shared commitment to public safety and the protection of telecommunications infrastructure, ensuring a secure digital environment for all citizens.
