Two Excise Sub-Inspectors Suspended; Disciplinary Action Recommended Against Assistant District Excise Officer
TFP Bureau, Raipur, August 6, 2026: The Chhattisgarh Excise Department has initiated stringent action against officials over alleged irregularities in the operation of liquor shops, suspending two Excise Sub-Inspectors and recommending disciplinary proceedings against an Assistant District Excise Officer in separate cases involving overpricing of liquor and the illegal sale of stock beyond prescribed limits.
The action comes as the state government reiterates its commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against corruption and administrative negligence.
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai stated that the government would take strict action against any officer or employee found violating rules or indulging in irregularities. He emphasized that no individual would be spared if found guilty of misconduct.
According to an order issued by the Excise Commissioner, Excise Sub-Inspector P. Madhav Rao of Baloda Bazar-Bhatapara district has been suspended with immediate effect. The action followed allegations that he failed to take appropriate action on complaints regarding the sale of liquor at prices higher than the prescribed rates at the Rohasi Country Composite Liquor Shop. He was also found negligent in ensuring that the shop’s CCTV surveillance system remained functional and updated.
In another case, an investigation into the seizure of 53 cases of illicit country-made and foreign liquor in Dhamtari district’s Arjuni police station area on July 25 revealed, through hologram verification, that the liquor had originated from the Arkar Country Composite Liquor Shop in Balod district. The inquiry reportedly found evidence of wholesale liquor sales exceeding the permitted limits, leading to the suspension of Circle In-charge and Excise Sub-Inspector Asha Ram Shakya.
The department has also recommended disciplinary action against Assistant District Excise Officer Nilofar Jain, who was in charge of the Arkar liquor shop. The Excise Commissioner forwarded the recommendation to the Commercial Tax (Excise) Department, citing alleged negligence in supervision and lapses in the discharge of official responsibilities.
The Excise Department stated that it will continue to take strict action against any violations related to liquor shop operations, including overcharging consumers, illegal sales practices, and breaches of departmental regulations, to ensure transparency and accountability in the state’s excise administration.
